If I were a college kid and the vaccine wasn't required at my school, my incentive to get it MIGHT be if they said- hey if you have it and can prove it you don't' have to wear a mask in class At that age, they aren't too worried about getting seriously ill from Covid. That age group is notoriously invincible in their minds. Not to mention the statistics are in their favor as well.
But they may get it for something like not having to wear a mask. So if the goal is to incentivize people to get it, they might want to consider that. If you still have to wear a mask after getting it- I would imagine many just wont get it then.
ETA- and now I'm hearing stories in the other thread about doctors telling fully vaccinated, otherwise healthy people, to double mask on public transportation. So does the vaccine work, or no? If it works why are they telling you to double mask? I don't get it at all.
It works, but nothing is 100% effective, and their doctor doesn't want them to get COVID. They were fine with it. They don't want COVID either, even with reduced symptoms, and I don't blame them.
I would tell them to go get a second opinion as even the CDC is not saying this anymore. This might be doing mite harm to them.
Congratulations! I guess you graduated from medical school this week???
THANK you. They don't want a second opinion. They trust their doctors, who have excellent credentials, btw, and who aren't saying double mask in all situations. They're specifically saying to do so on public transportation because of poor ventilation and that pesky Delta variant. I wasn't saying this for a debate. I was sharing their experience, an experience that didn't bother them but served as a reminder to all of us to stay cautious. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. Do what you want -- they'll wear masks as they see fit. I'm thrilled they listen to their doctors so they can be as safe as possible, which is the only thing that matters to me.
Public transportation has to be as high risk as it gets.
It's indoors, in cramped quarters, with questionable air circulation. You might be there for a while and you don't know who you are next to.
Worst of all, not only can you rarely socially distance, sometimes you are abnormally close to people. I've ridden the NYC subway many times when I was involuntarily pressed up against someone so tightly I probably should have taken Plan B when I got home.
I'm not a doctor but it sounds reasonable to me that that is a place for extra precautions.
I assume you haven’t gone to any places indoor or outdoor then like clubs and places where people are in close quarters for hours. No spikes have happened from them.
Why do you ASSUME anything about anyone else. NONE of your f'in business. YOU do YOU and let everyone else do them - how about you try that for a while?

Re: College and masks
Another angle here, and I'm not really directly replying to anyone in particular, is that college is, of course, an educational experience, but also a social one. If we want to think logically about the situation, I think we need to consider the following.
If masks are required in classrooms only for everyone, yet everyone is socializing indoors outside of class without masks, masks in the classroom are unlikely to be the make-it-or-break-it factor in whether cases--breakthrough or otherwise--spread across a campus. If everyone is wearing masks in classrooms only and ripping them off the moment they exit the building, the wearing is a literal and metaphorical masquerade.
To be clear, I'm not an "anti-masker" or whatever. I say "or whatever" because I'm jaded by all these phrases and labels people have come up with to show what "side" they are on. Also, I'm specifically talking about here and now--with the vaccine largely available and with rates of infection and death quite low--I'm not talking about earlier in the pandemic.
ETA: If it matters in this conversation, I am in favor of vaccine mandates at colleges. I have multiple reasons why, one being that I do believe the vaccine is the key to returning to normalcy.

Re: College and masks
I highly doubt that most people on this board are out partying in large crowds especially with the concern of wearing masks in a spaced out store. I could be wrong but it would shock me to hear otherwise.

You clearly spend way too much time thinking about what "most people on this board" are doing.

Re: College and masks
Read the room. Some have no problem wearing masks forever even after being vaccinated for years and some mask up because they feel bad for strangers they don’t even know why they have chosen to wear a mask out. People are not going to crowded dance floors on this board.
