Is this an unreasonable request?

We traveled to see my family for the holiday. When we get there, everyone is sick. My two sister in laws, my brother in law and 4 of my nieces and nephews. They are coughing, sneezing, runny nose, hoarse voice, etc.

Is it unreasonable to ask them to let us know that they are all sick before travel 4 hours to go see them? My son just missed 5 days of school due to the flu before break.

Yes, I know people get sick, but we could’ve rescheduled seeing as how 50% of the people at Christmas were sick.

Not at all unreasonable and I would have been extremely annoyed. They should have told you and you could have decided if it was worth it to go. It may be just a cold, but I have to miss days of work when my kids are out with colds.

Re: Is this an unreasonable request?

I'm with you. I get it we are finally living and all, but so much is going around now. I know my kids are gonna come home sick bc they're around everyone at school, with friends, activities, etc
I just would like to avoid getting sick if we are going somewhere where it's obvious everyone is sick.
I literally just got a heads up in a text from friends that are 5 mins away that her husband is getting over a cold.
I said I appreciate you letting us know. WE are still good to come over. If she said everyone was really sick we would reschedule. Especially kids bc they ALWAYS catch something just bc they are so gross. LOL
My son caught a cold from his cousin bc she's younger and hangs all over him.

It's a shame you even have to request being told, that they wouldn't have the courtesy on their own. It certainly is a reasonable request.

I agree with other, No unreasonable. Not fair or nice of them not to give you a heads up, so you and your hubby and decide if you want to go.

No not unreasonable. Especially moreso now in the post Covid climate.

We were taken down in 2018 by a stomach virus when someone brought a kid who had vomited to Christmas Eve. 3/4 of us fell first and my younger son got it the next day prob from the rest of us. 30/50 people there got the virus…

Omg this exact scenario happened to us in 2010 at my DDs first Christmas! She was 6 months old, a family came from out of town and they were all sick with a stomach bug recently, some still had active diarrhea Chat Icon and didn't tell us. (We found out after the fact)
That Christmas resulted in my 6 month old, a 4 month old, me, my pregnant sister, and 4 other adults all coming down with a horrific stomach bug...one person even ended up hospitalized because they fainted at home from dehydration.
We still talk about that to this day!
Babies, a pregnant woman and elderly people were there and they had no regard at all.
It's just unreal people's selfishness!

Absolutely not unreasonable

Unfortunately now you know you actually have to ASK if people are sick before you visit again

Same. We were all taken down by a 2 year old who got sick on his way to dinner and they still came. The rest of the family had been sick previously but attributed to congestion and bad food…

Is this an unreasonable request?

Thanks.

My brother is making it seem like I am out of my mind. He also tested positive for Covid yesterday after his wife was coughing, hoarse voice, and had no taste or smell at Christmas dinner, but failed to let anyone know until dessert when she couldn’t smell her kid’s diaper to see if it was a poop diaper. You honestly can't make this up. She even commented on how she didn't even think to test after her kids were exposed at daycare and then got sick the week and then she got sick a few days later. I pretty much hate people. She also came to Christmas last year with covid too. next year, we're doing Christmas with my ILs.

The dad of our stomach bug relative came to Christmas and tested positive for Covid the next day in 2020… We skipped that one as DH had been exposed at work and didn’t want to potentially expose the whole family… But he too had been knowingly exposed at work and still came… Thankfully it didn’t spread. But yes, people do things like that so they can celebrate holidays.

Not unreasonable at all. DD was sick on Christmas Day and we cancelled plans with family as a result. That is the right thing to do.

Re: Is this an unreasonable request?

We were exposed to someone who is Covid Positive today and told the people we had plans with tonight it was their call if we hang or not. They declined due to high risk family so we are staying home

We wouldn’t even be contagious yet being just exposed a few hours ago but still had common courtesy to let the people we were supposed to spend time with

I cannot believe in this day and age with all the shit going around, people wouldn’t at least give you the option if you want to risk it or not

Not unreasonable at all. I'm with you. Tried to keep my kids healthy this break so they will surely go back to school. I'd be extremely agitated to say the least.

The “funny” part is my son had the flu two weeks before Christmas so the week before Christmas I made him wear a mask at school so he wouldn’t pick up any other germs and bring them to Christmas and get others sick (or make us miss Christmas with my family) - lol jokes on me.
