Current Covid Guidelines?
5 days? What is day 1?
Do we have to notify doctor's office or just school?

I don't know, for me personally I don't think I will ever test again. My guideline is if I am sick I stay home and once I feel better I can go out. I havent heard of anyone doing the 5 day thing unless specifically required by their job or school, and in that case I believe day 1 would be the day you test positive.

I understand totally. However, it's my daughter who tested positive and only because she had a very slight runny nose. That was her only symptom. For a runny nose, I would normally be like "Oh, you're fine." But obviously not. If I didn't test her, I would have sent her to school because she isn't sick-sick. KWIM?
She was sick 2 weeks ago with a fever and nausea. Obviously, we kept her home then for a few days.

School will let you know when she can come back. Day 0 is the day you first experience symptoms. (I went through this with my son - this is when you had to be home for 10 days which actually meant 11 days).

Current Covid Guidelines?
Day 0 is the first day of symptoms. I personally am not testing anymore. It is ridiculous to test for Covid when these past two months people have been out for weeks with other illnesses and no one tests for that. If your child is sneezing or coughing, have them wear a mask. To have kids not be in school when they are feeling fine is a disservice to them.

You don’t have to notify anyone or do anything. Out of respect for others, stay home while symptomatic. Were a mask in the days following. I will not bother to test as I don’t want to deal with the horseshit that comes along with that anymore…

At my job there still is. I honestly don't get why anyone even tests anymore. Just stay home if you feel sick. ANY virus or illness COULD get someone else sick.
We do have to test to come back in to the office as we have 2 weeks off BUT if by any chance you come up positive, you can still work from home sooooo.... at that point who cares.

as evidenced by the other thread of people showing up to holidays sick - people can't be trusted to stay home when they are sick. my son has covid. i've tested each day to know what i'm able to do responsibly. as long as i stay negative i'll go to work, but he can't go to school until day 10 as he can't wear a mask reliably for 5 days.
it sucks. it is what it is. the amount of sick kids at my school before the break tells me that not everyone stays home when they're sick.. and not every sniffle is just a sniffle.

my DH"s friend tested negative on a home test but positive on a PCR.
The home tests are notoriously unreliable for negatives.
Plus I imagine you are contagious before you even pop a positive.

yes. i usually do - depending on my symptoms and the duration of them, if needed, i'll get a throat culture and/or, respiratory panel swab usually at the encouragement of my doctor. i like to know what i'm up against and to rule out anything worse. you don't have to agree with that or understand it
i've also taken a test everyday for 6 days straight, no symptoms, all negative. same with my husband. tested my son again a few days after his initial positive - still positive. both time i've had covid, i've shown up positive.
i try to be as responsible as i can be within reason when it comes to this stuff

Sometimes it gets to be too much though, too obsessive and your anxiety could get you sick.
Everyone will get sick and I live in a house with people too and sometimes we catch it from one another, sometimes we don't. Mostly we don't as we try and keep our immune system up and not worry about it that much.

Current Covid Guidelines?
At my employer its 5 days isolation starting the day of the positive test, then days 5-10 they request you wear a mask but say it's not mandatory.
I just had it and isolated for 5 days and tested negative at day 7.

I would never ever test one of my children if they only had a runny nose. In the past they may have had a very mild case of the flu with a runny nose and we never tested. This is not different. My daughter was very ill before the holidays. Got her tested for the flu so she could get Tamiflu, but with no medications for children with Covid what's the point of testing for Covid?

The thing is you are most contagious leading up to a positive test result, so you could still be infecting others even though you think that you are doing the responsible thing.

That was what i was trying to say. There really is no way to avoid spreading it unless you never leave the house or go around anyone. It's a false sense of security.

Same here. At any given point someone in the house has a runny nose, stuffy nose. there is no way we’re constantly going to test.

Which has ALWAYS been the rule. We have turned into a paranoid society over a virus that is never going to go away. You wonder why so many people have anxiety now.
