Boys and 8th grade dance

I have no clue what the boys are wearing and it seems as if most of my mom friends of boys don't either.
So far I'm ordering a white button down dress shirt, navy and black dress pants bcI don't know which way to go and debating to add vest too.
He does not want to wear sneakers, which is surprising bc I think most his friends will wear their nikes, but he wants to wear dress shoes.

They all had a lot of bar/bat mitzvahs last year so assuming similar, but I don't know and of course he outgrew all that anyway. Looking for some direction. LOL

Does the dance have a theme? Is it at the school? Is it air conditioned? If not, I wouldnt go with what you are planning on having him wear or he will just be a super sweaty mess (instead of a sweaty mess lol).

We just had our 7th grade dance as our middle school only goes until 7th grade. It had a tropical theme so the boys wore Hawaiian shorts and either khakis or dressier shorts. Last year it was a red carpet theme and most boys wore a polo shirt and shorts.

Yes I was going to ask about if there is a theme.
The 8th grade dance at DD's school is themed as semi formal this year- they posted some inspo pictures and it was like cocktail dresses for girls (think wedding guest) and they showed some ideas for boys too like dress pants and button downs.
But again it depends on the theme if there is one

I work at a junior high, and it is mixed. Some girls get all dolled up in fancy dresses, to casual sundresses. As far as boys, the same. Some boys come in Khakis and a nice colored shirt to suits and ties.

What ever your child is more comfortable wearing.

Theme is NYC graffiti and it's booked at a fancy catering hall so definitely AC. I know girls are spending hundreds on dresses. It's crazy. I'm not planning a tie for him, but definitely dress pants and button down top

That's what it seems like for this school. It'll be a mix of full on suits or khakis.

Re: Boys and 8th grade dance

My son has always been willing to take a risk with clothing, but I would suggest to him a funky graffiti shirt. There are so many out there.
