Intensive Dental Work
DH has terrible teeth and is seriously considering getting them all removed and having a full set of permanent dentures / implants done. He has had a consultation at a place on Long Island - I think it's called Simply Smile. The cost is about $50,000 for a full top and bottom replacement They would be secured by post and would be different to dentures whereas he would not be taking them out at night but I think he would have to go to the practice once or twice a year for a thorough cleaning.
Has anyone done anything like this or know of someone who has?
Its a huge chunk of money for us but he is is so miserable with this teeth that we are thinking of finding a way.
Any feedback?
Thank you

Re: Intensive Dental Work
I've had experience with implants but not what you've described. Yes, they are expensive, but I think he if can avoid removable dentures, he should.
I know you say the teeth are bad, but are some teeth still worth saving? I would assume all the molars are the ones that really need replacing. I would ask for other options, just so you and he can make the best decision.
TBH that cost doesn't seem bad for a full replacement. If you do it piece meal, it may cost more, but will not be that extreme. I guess it be pends on how bad his teeth are, and if he doesn't do them all, is he just delaying the inevitable. (My father did have them all done like 25-30 years ago when it was fairly new. He did eventually start having trouble with them when he was in his 90s. I don't know all the details, but he did get a long time and had good success with them, even though the technique and materials used then were probably quite different than today.) Good Luck

Re: Intensive Dental Work
Wow. My dh got dentures years ago and had a lot of his teeth taken out. Not many left that are his own.
The entire set of dentures (we DID get a discount though from a friend) was only $1,500.

Re: Intensive Dental Work
Yes, Implants are insanely expensive. I have had two individual teeth done... they were teeth that chipped when I was younger and the root canal/crowns eventually got infected so I had to extract them and replace them with an implant and crown... each one of them cost me about 5k soup to nuts.
You could shop around for different quotes but sounds about right on what they cost.

Re: Intensive Dental Work
I have terrible teeth and I am in the process of getting 3 implants, but I also needed extensive bone reconstruction. I started the process in January. It has been an extremely painful process, and this is just for three teeth. Removing all of your teeth seems extreme although I can see how it would be appealing if his teeth are that bad. I would definitely get a second opinion to see if he can do something less extensive but still permanent.

Re: Intensive Dental Work
My MIL was quoted $80k, so the price isn't THAT bad. With that said, I agree with Lululu. Try to get a second opinion/option. My gums are my issue and I have more fake teeth (bridge, implants) than real ones and it's not fun

Re: Intensive Dental Work
Just another thought... Is Same day implants? If so I would get another opinion on options. I do not know anything about same day implants, but generally getting implants is just a long process, especially if bone grafting is involved. Besides money involved in all this, there is time and angst. Really explore the options. While typing this I just found this blog for Same day implants. There are advantages / disadvantages to both ways. https://blog.ddslab.com/pros-and-cons-of-same-day-dental-implants

Re: Intensive Dental Work
Implants are insanely expensive. Way more than dentures and usually not covered by insurance though some insurances have started covering some of it. It's also a traumatic process but in the long run the best option for replacing lost teeth in terms of being closest to your own teeth. You can always do a payment plan if he decides to go that way. It's a big decision for sure

My husbands cousin did his entire bottom row at Pure Dental in Manorville. He said it was the best decision he ever made. The place is unlike any other he went to. Everything modern - super clean. They also care for his teeth with cleaning (which they actually remove the entire “denture” clean it in a machine and put back on.
It is a huge investment but with care credit can pay it off like anything else
I would suggest a free consult with them and see where it goes.
