Re: CRUISES! :-)

I know Royal Caribbean and Princess are having great deals right now. I'm about to book a 5 day cruise and with airfare and all it's costing $1200 for the two of us!

Re: CRUISES! :-)

Well the cheapest time of year to go is August (hurricane season).

Shop around at different travel agents.

Try to cruise from NYC, you will save money by having no airfare.

Re: CRUISES! :-)

Do a Google search for discount cruises. You'll get a lot of hits. Just search and find an itinerary that you like and then go to www.cruisecompete.com. They will get you the best bids from the many different cruise booking sites out there.

Re: CRUISES! :-)

I believe you get a discount for groups of over 20 no matter where you book. I suggest trying to figure out what exact cruise you would like to take and then call 2 travel agents, expedia and the cruise line directly and see what kind of deals they offer you. Let them know you are searchig for the best price, they may do better for you if they know you are also looking elsewhere.

You dont get a discount on groups. You get additional items such as amenity points and tour conductor points.

Keep in a mind a group is considered min 8 cabins regardless of how many people.

If amenity points are awarded (quantity determined by the cruise line) you can use such items to help enhance the cruising experiece. Such things as wine in every stateroom, towels, cookies, etc...amenities vary by the cruise line.

Tour conductor is a 1 for 15 ratio which means for every 15 full paying guests the 16th person (and you choose the person) their berth is free. They would have to pay the taxes, fees, and government charges but their base rate is free.

Groups also have different deposit requirements. That is determined by the cruise line and also depends on the type of cabin and when the sailing is.

If you have any questions please feel free to FM me. I work in the group cruise department for my company.

Re: CRUISES! :-)

I have taken several cruises and have price shopped around. RCCL and Celebrity don't have much in the way of discounts anymore - they tightened their reigns a few years ago - but with some research you can find the few places that are "key account" and they can offer certain approved discounts.

For Princess and Disney I find this company to have the best prices:
bestpricecruises
I usually call and speak with someone there - my family has used them for years and DH and I have used them for a few cruises. I also have given their name to a few people who have had good success. I call rather than book online. For the cruises I have taken they have given me the best price around. They also often offer other things like free travel insurance (I get my own); reduced initial deposit, shipboard credit etc.

Also check out: cruisecompete
You can enter what you want and the companies will then send you quotes and you can compare them.

Cruisecritic
Is a helpful site BUT you are not allowed to mention TA's on the site so it isn't as helpful in that respect. There are some hints but nothing direct.
