Re: Satellite TV vs. Cablevision

If Fios available try them if not DirecTV is good.

it is, and its not.
The TAXES on Fios bring the cost up to about the same as cablevision. I looked into it over the weekend.

Re: Verizon FIOS vs. Cablevision

FIOS might be cheaper the first year, but I believe if you call them to find out what the rate will be the second year they won't tell you.

Cablevision is also running a promotion right now. If you sign up with the triple play you get a free DVR (for I think a year) as well as free HBO on demand for a year.

Re: Verizon FIOS vs. Cablevision

We are trying FiOs for telephone and TV and if we like it we will switch the internet to them too. But we aren't cancelling cable until we have given FiOs a trial run.

Re: Verizon FIOS vs. Cablevision

I have been loving my FIOS. We have had phone and internet for awhile and got tv about 2 months or so ago.

That said, I work for verizon and was extremely hestitant about switching tv from cablevision to fios. I told everyone for awhile that I wouldnt switch but was so glad I did it.
Unfortunately, we dont get a discount on it as employees, I pay the same as everyone else, but I wouldnt go back to cablevision.

Re: Verizon FIOS vs. Cablevision

I was a big fan of Cablevision. I was always reluctant to switch over to Verizon and was ever aware of the bait, i.e. lower first year prices to lure you in.

I finally spoke with a Verizon rep, and although it is the first year discount, they gave me more and for less than Cablevision. I also stated my concerns about rising rates in the second year. He said to call then and say you're cancelling. You'll get any current promotions at the time.

That being said, the TV service is better and the quality f the HD is sharper if you can believe that. Phone service is fine, as was Cablevisions, and the internet is about twice as fast as Cablevision. You also get a free wireless router.

Now, if year two comes around and they don't offer me a promotion, it's back to Cablevision I go. Now that I'm not a customer of their's anymore, it seems my business is important to them and I regularly get letters offering me deals to come back.

My recommendation is, if it's available, FiOS is a better service.

I've had FiOS since February. Love it. No complaints yet and would not go back to Cable if you paid me (for now). Like someone else said, as soon as they new we were canceling, THEN they tried to give us great rates and promos...well, they should have valued their customers sooner...

I like some of the channels better, also with any of the movie channels, on demand for that channel is included at no extra charge. I also think the picture is clearer
