I'm a dog lover, and have an 80lb. Boxer, BUT when my SIL bought their little Maltese to the church for my son's Baptism I was NOT happy...I know its a little different BUT I feel that pets do not belong in stores, churches, beaches (while people are sunbathing), etc...to each its own yea, but when it comes down to it, its all about being considerate. With that said...I hope my dog gets a piece of my upstairs neighbor's a$$ one day...can't stand her
i tried to stay out of this bc i dont really care about dogs in stores. . .
HOWEVER, a dog in a CHURCH?! for a BAPTISM?!?!
please tell me you are joking no one said anything? Did they RSVP for the dog
I kid, of course...that is just crazy.

I did...kind of... We were taking pictures up at the altar and they bought her up there (in a doggy bag, but her head was sticking out)...she was in pictures. I told SIL that unfortunately I'm going to have to cut their dog out of the picture...some nerve! Everyone in that family stays quiet...but this just ticked me off. She didn't say anything though...she knew they were ridiculous...they just got her too so I kind of let it slide but I was upset. I'll make sure to bring my 80 lbs. "cow" up on the altar when they're baptizing their granddaughter. I'm gonna tell her that God doesn't discriminate or judge

Wow! I am so sorry that happened to you. My priest would have stopped everything and thrown them out! (If he noticed it anyway) I am shocked that someone would be so disrespectful to bring an ANIMAL up to the altar!!!!!
eta: i know there are specific masses where they bless the animals - that is obviously different . . .

It wasn't that big of a deal BUT it did bother me that they would do something like that...they just made themselves look really silly thats all...to me it was more of a respect thing. My church is actually pretty open to bringing animals in. There was a Yorkie running around at a Midnight Mass one year and the priest just asked him to please take his seat I'm being dead serious.

But since it is allowed the person with the allergy has the burden of finding out if there is a danger on board.
Some airlines do not allow pets to fly, so I would imagine if you have allergies that severe, you know this and choose to fly those airlines that do not allow it. All the airlines I fly have specific numbers per flight limits. Jetblue is 4 pets per flight. I think Continental is 3.
And USairways is 2 pets per flight

Re: Spinoff to Dogs in Stores

Didn't have a chance to read through this entire thread (yet) - but I wanted to add why I was repulsed last night....
DH and I went to New Park Pizza in Howard Beach last night for a slice...we're having pizza, and this woman walks in with her shi tzu...she was carrying the dog in her arms.
Do you want to know what this dog did? It began to lick the counter...the napkin holder...and the box of straws....
now explain that to me? A few people waiting to get their pizzas had a look of horror on their face, and one woman grabbed her two children and left....
What did the dog owner do? NOTHING...put the dog on a seat at a table, and the dog continued to "clean" (lick) the table clean.
Not that I eat off the table or anything...thank goodness for paper plates...but seriously? How can that be sanitary? Health Code violation or not...but I hold responsibility fully on the dog owner...just b/c she was "used" to having her dog lick her house...doesn't mean it can be done in a place serving food.
Now thats just GROSS!!!!!!!! I've taken my dog to stores in her carrier but never to a restaurant and I would NEVER allow her to do that

My dog wanted me to relay this message.
"Although I find all this discussion about my kind very flattering, I feel I must set the record straight. Being a dog of medium to large size, currently 70lbs but for a female my vet says I need to lose a few, I DO NOT even want to be in the store or restaurant etc. I would much rather stay home and lick myself and see what I can destroy before my humans come back. Please, I think I can speak for all dogs great and small that the time we spend alone plotting how to drive the humans crazy is much better than any trip to the store. Thank you, Love Kasey." Kasey is officially not allowed to hang with my dogs

Posted by seank80 Why shouldn't they make her change her flight if there is a person with allergies on the flight?
Sorry, I fly with my cat often (I am on the breed committee and go to many cat shows). Why do I have to change MY flight? You are the one with the problem. i am not trying to be inconsiderate, but I booked my flight and my cat's ticket that I pay $150 for on an airline well in advance that allows pet to fly. If you have allergies and it’s an issue you should inquire when you book if there are pets allowed and if so are there currently any booked.
If you don’t agree with an airline’s pet policy fly a different airline, just like you wouldn’t go into Petco knowing they allow cats in there if you suffer such severe allergies.
You know I love your cats but you also know I am allergic to them as with all cats and lots of dogs.
I honestly don't even think to ask the airline or flight attendant if pets are on board. I just "assume" planes are for people.
But I will be miserable if a cat is on board or dog I am allergic to.

I can't believe I'm going to answer this.
Service animals are covered under the ADA and trump anyone with an allergy.

I know that its the law that service dogs ARE allowed, i'm not stupid.
I just thought i'd throw it out there since lots of the people here are against dogs in food establishments.
this has been discussed ad nausem... it's ok you might have missed considering there have been 83948329874837847 posts...
