Low Amniotic Fluid..
So i had a sonogram appointment today.. Got to see my little girl on the big screen.. but.. the technician noted that I had low amniotic fluid.. she said the baby was fine, but that at this stage there should be more..
so then i saw my doctor who went over my recent bout with a horrible cold.. and he didn't like the sound of my persistent cough..
so he put me on temporary bed rest.. till Tuesday when I go back to the doctor's office.. I am to sit still and drink loads of fluids.. and if my cough doesn't get better by thursday he's switching me from a strong OTC cough syrup to an antiobiotic/narcotic.
I'm bored already.. I hope this works and my Amniotic fluid levels are higher when I go back next week..
oh.. and i'm only 28 weeks..

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
I'm sorry that you are battling such a horrible cold!! I hate when I cough nonstop- everything hurts! It sucks that you're bored but just think, if you're a good patient and drink lots of fluids and stay still, you will probably be off bedrest soon!! Feel better!

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
thanks so much for responding..!! I'm laying in bed now drinking water an watching mindless television.. I will be getting up later to go get my free ice cream though.. I"m just really worried about what will happen if the amniotic fluid levels don't increase.. That has me freaked out the most.

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
Your situation sounds very similar to what happened to me. I had a terrible upper respiratory infection & a deep persistent cough when I was 30 weeks. On a Friday night I called my doctor because it got so bad I was literally crying & when I would have a bad coughing fit I noticed I was leaking a little bit of fluid. Since it was the beginning of the weekend & he would be closed until Monday he sent me to the hospital. When they did an ultrasound they said my amniotic fluid was low at 7. They checked & my water did not break. They felt it got lower possibly due to infection, fever, & dehydration. They felt it was necessary to put me on antibiotics ( Zpack) to help get rid of the cough/upper respiratory infection. I had to stay in bed, drink lots of fluid & follow up w/ my doctor on Monday. On Monday my fluid was up to 11 & we did one more check a week later to make sure it was staying up & it was at 13. So the bottom line, there is plenty of hope!! I know it's easier said then done but try to relax & enjoy your down time.

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
Drink lots of water. I had this problem after getting over the flu. I was already drinking 10 - 12 glasses of water a day but it wasn't enough. I upped my water and a week later my fluid levels were double what they were. enjoy the rest, you will not get much of it when the baby arrives.

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
I hadlow fluid through most of my pregnancy. I ended up drinking over 120oz of water a day just to keep my levels on the low side of normal. I ended up delivering a perfect little boy at 38 weeks. so as pp's have said...drink drink drink!

Re: Low Amniotic Fluid..
thank you ladies so much... yes my doctor has stated that if it doesn't improve he's going for the Z-pack..
i'm drinking bottles nad bottles of water.. lol. i have a 7 yr old and my husband is out of town on business for a couple of weeks so i've moved back in with my mom and i send my brother for cases of water.. everyone is super supportive.. it jsut really sucks because i had a lot of plans for this weekend that i had to cancel..
