Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?
Some people believe that the RNP are purposefully smearing Palin to discourage her from running in 2012.
I am a very liberal girl and I really like and admire Jindal. I really believed that McCain was going to choose him as his running mate. I think it was his biggest mistake not to.
Jindal will have to fight the same racism that Obama had to, but I think it will be interesting to see what happens with him.
All of this Obama/Jindal talk makes me so happy! It gives the impression that we're really moving past ethnicity/color etc...
If we could only get past gender...

Are you referring specifically to Palin RE: gender? Because I honestly believe we'd be doing women a disservice if she was VP. Just as I don't view Obama as a black man, but a man who is eloquent, intelligent and well-qualified for the job, I don't thing Palin was qualified no matter her gender.
In fact I think it's a bit of a travesty that she was chosen when you have someone like Condi Rice waiting in the wings.

I'm an AA, and I have a couple of comments.. I'll drop off..
1. deedlebug, as a woman who is 100% AA, to a woman who is 1/4 AA and looks caucasian, I wouldn't consider you bi-racial. most AA's wouldn't consider you to be AA..
2. Obama identifies with AA's because the world SEES HIM as an AA.. When he walks into a room, no one says oh wow.. there goes a guy who is half Kenyan and half caucasian american.. They say.. Oh look.. there goes another black man (well not anymore.. )
3. On the 'drink the kool aid' comment.. It's often taken out of context.. Someone mentioned the true history of the term, and anyone with knowledge of that information will not think of it as a racist term.. I belong to a board of Black women and this same conversation came up and there were many who felt that the term was racist but it's not. Sometimes people try to make more of something than it is..
4. The Palin problem is the result of the RNC's doing. She didn't choose herself.. THEY chose her.. and they used her to suit their needs. They knew that lady wasn't ready nor prepared, but they put her in the spotlight without even really knowing who SHE is.. and it backfired.. she was able to fire up the base but then at the same time she also incited a little rage and anger.. and she embarassed the party. .and now that it's time to start sending out resumes and senior aides are trying to Save their own asses, everyone wants to throw her under hte bus. That is WRONG.. She didn't just turn up Stupid on Wednesday.. she was a dingbat back in August.. but they pushed her out there to the world and put her family on display, and created havoc in her family life, lost her privacy and then when things started to go sour they looked at her and said 'it's YOUR fault"..no.. it's not.. she was a pawn, an she got used.. and i could go on and on about that because as much as i couldn't stand the dingbat.. lol. right is right and wrong is wrong and what they are doing is WRONG..
5. Yes I believe based on her lack of knowledge and the interviews she gave that she didn't know what NAFTA was, and she didn't know Africa was a continent, and other little silly things.. I believe it all.
I agree 100%

I think Bobby Jindal is going to be the new Republican Golden Boy- he's young, bright, good-looking, and seems more moderate. 2012 is going to be interesting!
i heart jindal..i was hoping he would have been the veep pick

as a liberal Democrat, I am disgusted that anyone is still talking ill of Palin..The race is over. Everyone needs to get passed this.
She's a great person; someone I truly admire just don't share her political beliefs...

I think the poster was saying that she wished that we could break through the barrier of gender. The election of Obama is wonderful breakthrough - and there are other breakthroughs that we are waiting for as well.
I dont think it was a comment about Palin.

No, I was speaking generally. I was not a McCain/Palin supporter by any means and I think she would have been a horrid VP and possible president. But I do think that our society while our society begins to open up to different types of men, ALL women are still treated rather unfairly.
I am actually glad that Codi Rice was not chosen. It would have given McCain a much greater chance at winning.

I think that we have higher expectations of the people who want to lead us. Like, a pro baseball player who goes hitless for 20 games. We'd say that he sucked, even though he's till way better than any of us. I wouldn't call her dumb in terms of her mothering skills, because she's clearly a good mom. And she had to have the political smarts to work the system in Alaska to get elected. But she didn't come close to having the "intellectual horsepower," for lack of a better term, that our country's second in command must have. By those standards, I can see calling her dumb. As I said in an earlier post, I think the truth's somewhere in the middle, but from what I saw in interviews and in the debate, she was very out of her league.

Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?
The election is over. 2012 is far away. If the people of Alaska want to keep her as Governor or elect her Senator, it is their choice and I wish them (and her!) good speed. Not my business.
I am tired of hearing reports about the "inside scoop" of the campaign. I am tired of the media not focusing on the real issues of this nation, and instead continuing to report on her spending sprees....they have a choice to take the interviews and "unidentified" sources OR instead take a look at the real issues of the day. And, I think they are proving wrong in this case.

she's raising 5 kids. good for her. so are alot of women. Mayor and Governor of Alaska, again, good for her. she may be politically savvy for Alaska but when you take her out of that environment, she is waaaaaaay out of her league. she presented herself in less than an intelligent way needed to be VP. she used her cute little catch phrases and little winks that may pass for what is needed to win office in Alaska, but it certainly doesnt pass muster on the national scene. she wanted to look like the average "hockey mom" and show that she knows what it feels like to sit around the kitchen table and talk about how life is affecting you. fine. she came off however as someone who is nowhere near ready to take on the duties of the person first in line to the presidency. if she is the future of the Republican party, the Democrats will be in control for a very long time to come.

she's very accomplished and no one can take that away from her. I do not agree w/her views, but I completely admire her as a woman and a mother. what she has achieved by age 44 is no small thing.
and as a woman, I am embarrassed at how she was treated. an article from even TODAY talked about how much her campaign clothes cost. the media is about as deep as a puddle

I personally think that the way she was treated from the moment she was announced VP canidate was DISGUSTING. The media was relentless in trying to dig up ANYTHING to cast a negative light on her.
Whether you agree with her policies or not, she was not treated the same as the others, and the media was more concerned about ANYTHING that could be construed as negative publicity for her, rather than report or investigate Obama's questionable relationships, which is INSANE to me... but that of course is just my opinion.
I could not have said it better
seriously! can you people just let it go already
Are you kidding me? I am responding to this post re: the ridiculous accusations against this woman. I wish the media would let it go, and just let her move on back home to Alaska, but she still has to defend herself against idiotic comments made against her.
If you don't want to hear about this anymore, don't read the post!
SweetestofPeas, was agreeing with you!!!
WHOOPS! I am sorry! I took it the other way.. I guess I am just very defensive on this subject!!!

She IS dumb-holding public office does not mean you are intelligent in many cases. She was president of the PTA and got elected to Mayor, then Governor because people liked her. That doesn't mean she's smart.

ITA and the PERFECT example of this is our very own George W. Bush!!
I don't understand why people would feel bad for her? She put herself in the public eye, she said some (ok a lot) of stupid things and are people supposed to ignore that?

A perfect example of this is in teh Bioll Maher movie Religulous he is interviewing a senator(I think from TX) an dthe Senator answers one of Bill's sarcastic questions and says. "Well there is no IQ test to be a member of the Senate!"

I think she wasn't knowledgeable enough to be VP. . . It is sad that McCain picked her, because I really do believe that she lost him a lot of voters. Several people I have spoken to would have voted for McCain if he had had a more moderate VP pick.
Sure, she inspired the conservative base, but they would have voted Republican anyway IMO.
I agree with this.. I think that if McCain had picked a Huckabee (I think that's who I mean I get him and Romney confused.. not that well versed on Republican politicians....) he could have swept this thing.. or if he wanted to get those women votes, if he had been able to get Condi.. he'd have knocked Obama out..
I agree with you about Condeleeza Rice - I feel like she's fallen through the cracks and with all this talk of strong, intelligent and QUALIFIED women, I feel like her name should've come up more often!
If Rice ran w/McCain, he would have probably won...but
Rice would probably never run w/McCain this time around (because she didn't want to run against Obama)

Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?
I would have preferred Rice (while I'm a Dem, I would have given McCain a more serious look if selected her). I think he believed he could not select anyone from the Bush administration.
It's not that Palin is dumb, I'm sure she is smart about Alaska, but I think her knowledge of the world outside Alaska is very limited and she was thrown on the national stage with no time to really prep.
