I can't believe everyone is still arguing about politics
Just ftr though, the expression "don't drink the kool-aid" comes from the Jonestown tragedy where all the cult members drank a kool-aid drink laced with poison in a suicide pact. Maybe everyone already knows this but...just though I'd share. Let's not read too much into everything
i tried to explain the meaning, but i am still in shock that people are in a rage over that post.
I agree that that is the meaning I associate with it, but you have to admit that it has racist conotations, its a stereotype for black people.

I'm not an "AA", but I am Hispanic, and a minority. Sorry, but it seems like you go out of your way to look for racist innuendos when there werent any intended in most instances. Is there a reason why?
honestly... its not like that... but because it was deedlebug making the comment, perhaps people saw more too it.
unfair? yes... but maybe she should watch how she *phrases* things and people wouldn't try to pick them apart so quickly.

i don't get how that compares to Obama (not being snarky -- being honest)
because it is about blood lines not skin color, that is why I get furious when Obama calls himself AA. There are a lot of bi-racial children who feel like they dont have a place to fit in to and if Obama started referring to himself as bi-racial, I think that would do more wonders than calling himself AA. That is my opinion

i totally understand what you're saying, and i respect that.....but maybe he identifies more with his AA heritage than anything else... i don't know....his father is from Kenya, and although he was an absentee father, maybe he feels more of a connection with that blood line
i don't even know why i'm trying to get into his head

Sadly, in this world, skin color does matter. It shouldn't, but it does. Even you said that people don't make comments to you because you don't appear to be AA. He does. So he embraces that part of his heritage. But he never tried to hide that he was bi-racial....he was very open about his family - including his clearly white grandmother. I personally don't tell people I'm German, English, French, Austrian and Irish when they ask....I usually say German or English.

i don't want to stir up anything, but doesn't BIRACIAL mean having parents of TWO different races?
if your bio father is aa/white, and your mom is white, wouldn't that mean you're 1/4 AA?

yes and no. Technically yes, you would be correct, but most will just write it off as being more than 1 race, you're bi-racial.

It is well knows that children of separate race parents "sometimes" need a sense of belonging with either peers on each race. They tend to sway in one direction. Which ever they feel they belong more. Obama is darker skin so most people would call him AA because of his color. That being said, he has a lot of white features. Yet, his "overall" look is AA. So most of the population (AA included) would call him AA.
I grew up were "true" AA (aka people born in Africa) are not always agreeing that a bi-racial person is an AA because they have white in them. White people think they are AA, AA think there are not really fully AA.

I didn't know that.
well... by that logic you know-- Obama doesn't "look" white, even though "technically" he's half.. to society's eyes he's AA... you know?
anyway- lets not get into this debate... I don't know who he identifies more with...I'm not him.
