I think she wasn't knowledgeable enough to be VP. . . It is sad that McCain picked her, because I really do believe that she lost him a lot of voters. Several people I have spoken to would have voted for McCain if he had had a more moderate VP pick.
Sure, she inspired the conservative base, but they would have voted Republican anyway IMO.
I agree with this.. I think that if McCain had picked a Huckabee (I think that's who I mean I get him and Romney confused.. not that well versed on Republican politicians....) he could have swept this thing.. or if he wanted to get those women votes, if he had been able to get Condi.. he'd have knocked Obama out..

She didn't just turn up Stupid on Wednesday.. she was a dingbat back in August..
5. Yes I believe based on her lack of knowledge and the interviews she gave that she didn't know what NAFTA was, and she didn't know Africa was a continent, and other little silly things.. I believe it all.
ITA with your post, very well written and put.

obama had to keep Biden tucked away after he kept putting his foot in his mouth, but now that he is VP, he has to be released and he will soon be privy to more of his genius statements.
hey we all know Biden can be a loose cannon, but at least he has a basic working knowldedge of Geography.
I understand that Palin is an embarrassment for those that finally see her for what she is , just an ambitious, uneducated, uniformed woman in designer suits, so I understand why Republican or McCain supporters don't want to speak about her. I wouldn't either, I too would change the subject.
why are you so angry? I don't see her as an embarassment - she has an excuse, she is new to the political scene? What is biden's excuse? He is a loose cannon - good endorsement of the new VP.
By the end of September, Biden had done about 80 interviews, Palin had done three. Taking gaffes into consideration proportionately, I'd call her the loose cannon!

African Americans
Thanks! I was wondering where that was going.
i'd LOVE to know how the AA's on this site would interpret that statement.
but what do i know!?
I'm an AA, and I have a couple of comments.. I'll drop off..
1. deedlebug, as a woman who is 100% AA, to a woman who is 1/4 AA and looks caucasian, I wouldn't consider you bi-racial. most AA's wouldn't consider you to be AA..
2. Obama identifies with AA's because the world SEES HIM as an AA.. When he walks into a room, no one says oh wow.. there goes a guy who is half Kenyan and half caucasian american.. They say.. Oh look.. there goes another black man (well not anymore.. )
3. On the 'drink the kool aid' comment.. It's often taken out of context.. Someone mentioned the true history of the term, and anyone with knowledge of that information will not think of it as a racist term.. I belong to a board of Black women and this same conversation came up and there were many who felt that the term was racist but it's not. Sometimes people try to make more of something than it is..
4. The Palin problem is the result of the RNC's doing. She didn't choose herself.. THEY chose her.. and they used her to suit their needs. They knew that lady wasn't ready nor prepared, but they put her in the spotlight without even really knowing who SHE is.. and it backfired.. she was able to fire up the base but then at the same time she also incited a little rage and anger.. and she embarassed the party. .and now that it's time to start sending out resumes and senior aides are trying to Save their own asses, everyone wants to throw her under hte bus. That is WRONG.. She didn't just turn up Stupid on Wednesday.. she was a dingbat back in August.. but they pushed her out there to the world and put her family on display, and created havoc in her family life, lost her privacy and then when things started to go sour they looked at her and said 'it's YOUR fault"..no.. it's not.. she was a pawn, an she got used.. and i could go on and on about that because as much as i couldn't stand the dingbat.. lol. right is right and wrong is wrong and what they are doing is WRONG..
5. Yes I believe based on her lack of knowledge and the interviews she gave that she didn't know what NAFTA was, and she didn't know Africa was a continent, and other little silly things.. I believe it all.
The most intelligent post on this thread! ITA agree with everything you said - from Kool Aid to Palin!
Also wanted to add a question - has Obama ever publicly identified himself as an African American, or is it just the media?
AND - his wife is African American and his children are mostly - it makes sense to me that he would identify with his family more than anything or anyone else.

I personally think that the way she was treated from the moment she was announced VP canidate was DISGUSTING. The media was relentless in trying to dig up ANYTHING to cast a negative light on her.
Whether you agree with her policies or not, she was not treated the same as the others, and the media was more concerned about ANYTHING that could be construed as negative publicity for her, rather than report or investigate Obama's questionable relationships, which is INSANE to me... but that of course is just my opinion.
I could not have said it better

Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?
Not to beat a dead horse but lets look at it in reverse, my DH is Caucasian and Latino. He looks spanish, his last name is very spanish; however, he was raised with his moms side, his caucasian side. Since he did not grow up in the spanish culture he identifies himself more with his caucasian side. His son he had with a previous relationship has a caucasian mom and he also identifies himself more as a caucasian. My DH does not deny he is spanish; howeve,r he will walk around and say he is a white man.Which, is funny cause he doesnt look like one. My point is, like PP have said it what what you see yourself as, not necessarily what your skin color is.
However, as others have said as well people will percieve you as something else regardless of it should happen or not ppl judge and can not help themselves. I dont necessarily think it to be ill willed.
For example, we were at a party with mix ethinicities and we were drinking and joking with my husband and he was saying I am a white man. So when we asked some my friends caucasian friends if they thought he was white, they said no way, You are spanish. They couldnt believe he was half white. We are a melting pot and you never know what people truly are!! My father is half puerto rican, 1/4 honduras and 1/4 italian. PPl thing he is African American cause of his feature. Growing up my peers including african americans swore I was caucasian and african american becuase of the tecture of my hair.
Just to add I am a Latina, and over the past few years, my husband has been learning about the spanish culture. But to him he will always feel more white than Spanish. Even though he may not look it.

This has been all over talk radio over the last few days - Laura Ingram has been talking about it, saying how cowardly these people are who are leaking these attacks.
I'm not really sure what the motivation is beyond they want to bury her so that she doesnt attempt any kind of run in 2012. The GOP will be focusing on Romney, Huckabee and possibly Jindal (Gov of Louisiana) and wants to stop her right now.
I think it's ridiculous to have this kind of scapegoating.

I don't think you can argue the mans intelligence. he is a very candid speaker. but he is not STUPID.
as for Sarah Palin, she is a lamb to the slaughter now and I actually feel a little badly for her.
it's like I said yesterday, those we build up, we must tear down.
I don't know who is running the show over there in the Republican Party, but they are not doing themselves ANY favors. the ugliness has to end!

Its perfectly clear what the topic of conversation of this thread is by just reading the reading the subject line??

No, sorry it's not the end of the story. First off, she's considering running for office in 2012. Secondly - you gave your opinion on the thread, everyone else has the same right. If you don't want to hear the "harping" don't keep clicking on the thread!!!
Also, this has nothing to do with "gracious winners" - or winners or losers for that matter. Politics are ongoing, and if she's going to figure in the future, people have a right to know just what she is or isn't capable of. It's not necessarily a partisan issue.

Yes, I think he's a very interesting figure to watch. His level of organization for Hurrican Gustav was impressive - and he's a very good speaker.
The fact that he's of Indian descent (and the first Indian American Governor) would also make any future election very interesting, should he run.

Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?
Well, whoever the RNC decides to start grooming for 2012, I truly hope it is not Palin. Aside from the recent comments, she has proven she is not fit for the role of President. If I was Republican, I would be concerned about her frankly. I have friends who are Republican, including two who are very socially conservative and Pentacostal to boot. They always vote Republican, but not this year, they went with Obama. All felt her lack of knowledge of our country and the world in general was frightening and they found her polarizing.
So Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney, Condi, any of them would be infinitely preferable to me from what I know of them.

Well actually she did say she would consider running in 2012 when she thought she was talking to Nicola Sarkozy, (remember the prank call) so there is audio of her saying this.

I don't know much about Jindal (i'll have to read up on him), but i LOVEEE Huckabee. Unfortunately, I couldnt vote for him in the primary b/c there were some things that he was just too conservative on for me, but he really is a genius. I love listening to him speak- his grasp of the economy, the gorvernment, etc... as well as the way he presents it truly impresses me. He's an extremely intelligent man, great demeanor and an excellent speaker.
I really hope Palin doesn't run in 2012. It's hard for me to fathom the idea (right now) that the GOP would even put their eggs in that basket.
