Has anyone ever had a ganglian cyst?
Its a small cyst that grows on top of your wrist if its ever sustained some kind of trauma. They are also associated with carpal tunnel. Have you ever gotten one removed or drained, and if so what kind of doctor/specialist did you use? TIA

I worked at an orthopedic office so I had one of the doctors drain it.

I had a ganglion cyst removed TWICE from the same wrist last year.
YOu would go to a Orthopedic surgeon...just in case they have to remove it, like they did mine.

mine went away on its own actually.
it was a little painful, so i went to the doctor, he sent me to physical therapy for it.....and then it went away one day!

My brother has a huge one on his writs. He is having surgery to remove it next month. They said they could have just drained it, but there is an 80% chance that it would come back that way.

my dad used to hit them with a book
and break it up
not sure if it worked - think it did
but the book sure hurt more than the cyst!

I get them all the time. I usually just wait till they go away on their own. A friend recommended a physical therapist to try and strengthen my wrists. I may go ... someday!

I never had one on my wrist, but I have had a cyst drained on my back. It was not too bad, I was more freaked out about the injection to numb it up. ( I am a baby when it comes to needles.), but it drained for a few weeks and then it took some time to close up on its own. I hope it feels better soon and goes away.

This what my doctor told me to do also. He said you could go for surgery but it would not prevent them from coming back. Mine happened to go away before I had to hit it with a book.

My DH has one on his wrist, he got it when he played drums, it comes and goes and the doctor said if they remove it, it will grow back.

I had one about 9 years ago- I had it removed
it was about the size od a golf ball- in my tiny wrist- it was so gross looking
it haven't had it come back-

I get them a couple times a year and that is what I do. My Dr. told me that I could have it removed, but that it was highly likely to come back. He said that people used to get rid of them by hitting them with a book and I decided to give it a try. It works. Hurts like he!!, but gets rid of them.

I had a large one the size of a golf ball and had shots of cortizone injected to make it go away and that worked but it was temporary and when it came back the 3rd time it was extremely painful so I chose to have it removed. There is a 95% chance it will never come back and that sounded good so i did it and it has been almost 4 years now.

I have one now from repeated use at work. Idon't hink it will ever go away, because every day it is getting bigger and more painful. Can anyone recommend an Orthopedic Dr. for me in Suffolk?

My husband has one and is getting it removed this Friday. Being that it is large, the ortho surgeon did not think it would go away with treatment.

i work for a doctor and he said that's what the doc used to do for it....ouch!
i had one drained by a hand surgeon. he also took an xray before he drained it. mine came back though...and now i'm getting one on the other wrist also. the hand surgeon said it can come back.

WOW I didnt realize how common they are.
I have one on my right wrist -
and it goes away and comes back all the time, This started probably about 3 years ago.
never really knew what to do about it,
sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesnt bother me at all,
like now I have it, not too big and doesnt bother me.
I guess I should have it looked at.

My husband has one on his wrist too. Being he's such a baby about the doctor, he "pops" it himself, but it always comes back. How or why do people get these things away?
