castor oil - Any positive experiences??
I'm 38+ weeks and my midwife told me that I can try the castor oil, icecream, oj combo tomorrow to try to start labor going. I know there's a lot of controversy out there, but does anyone have any positive castor oil experiences? I can't decide how I feel about it. thanks!!

If you are only 38 weeks why would you try to induce labor?

Re: castor oil - Any positive experiences??
my midwife also ok'd me to try this when i was 39 weeks .... we were trying early bc DH was deploying at any moment.
WELL>>> if you do it, be prepared! its the most horrible consistency of anything i've ever had in my life. it didnt work for me. the only thing it does is basically get your GI tract all crazy, which usually causes bowel movements and all, which COULD cause contractions. but if your body isnt ready, it isnt ready and its not going to work. but lord will it make you feel not good!
are u dilated at all? having and BH contractions? if yes, then i would say it MIGHT help, if not... it prob wont. sorry....

I tried this w/ DS. The only thing that happened was I had diarrhea the entire day and still no baby! I was induced 3 days later.

Re: castor oil - Any positive experiences??
as somebody who is 38+ weeks preggos (actually I only have 8 days left till due date), I see nothing wrong with trying different things.
Personally, I'm hoping still commuting (ie walking in NYC, taking subways, stairs, etc) will do the trick.
I don't think I'd do the castor oil, but that's just me.

Re: castor oil - Any positive experiences??
thanks everyone for your reply. I decided against it and feel good about my decision!! I was too worried that I would be having BMs all through labor - can't imagine that's fun!! even though I was only 38 weeks, we were trying to get things moving b/c my midwife was going out of town and I was hoping she would be there for the delivery. Oh well. Back up dr stripped my membranes today - we'll see if that helps at all. Unfortunately I'm only 50% effaced and 3 cm. Not sure if it will do anything.
