I cannot believe another cop.
When will the DWI end?
My guess, sadly, is never! It's Unbelieveable.

My prayers go out to the family of the officer that was killed... I hope they catch the Person who killed the cop and put them behind bars for a longtime.

Of course the drunk driver only suffered "minor injuries" 
for the officer and his/her family.

Many for the family.
It will ONLY end when the punishment is as scary and irreversible as the crime--like life in prison for causing a dui injury or death and a permanent license revocation for ANY dui.
That's what it's going to take for people to follow the law.
The real question is when people are going to realize this.

I agree. The punishment is not nearly as serious as the offense. My heart goes out to the officer's friends and family

This is devastating. My parents and our entire family are just devastated at this news. I was just called by Newsday - they want me to comment on the situation... What am I supposed to say? This is absolutely horrific.
I got chills when I heard what happened because of the day/time that it took place -- Saturday night shift into Sunday morning... just like Kenneth. But I REALLY got chills when I read about the details because...
The morning Kenneth was hurt - when I was first at the hospital, I was upset that Kenneth was switched the night of his shift from a Crown Victoria to an Impala. Someone told me he was supposed to be in the one car and got, last minute, changed to the other. I thought, maybe if he was in the Crown Vic he would have been in better shape impact-wise?? I was doing these "what if's?" the morning of his crash at the hospital... and when I said that, one of the cops IMMEDIATELY said to me (and I'll NEVER forget this - especially now) "no, he is SO much better off he was in the Impala - I think it was fate that he was switched" so I said, why?? and he said "those crown vics are KNOWN for going on fire when hit from the back or side... they are notorious for it"
I thought he was just trying to make me feel better... now, I realize, he was 100% right.
for the family
that justice will be done. it is suffolk - so, it is a whole different ballgame when it comes to how they deal with DWI offenders... they don't have a shark DA going for major convictions for these crimes and that is a damn shame.

I'm so upset right now because as I'm looking at the thread I happen to glance down at the "related topics" and just take a look at them -- how many related situations where drunk drivers cause injury, death, and damage to people's lives. I love the irony that one of the related topics is ME posting about the drunk driver that crashed into my sister's house a week before my wedding -- while my brother and little nephew were asleep upstairs! The irony - you have to laugh, because if you don't laugh you'll cry.
