Disclaimer - I am not Italian. Married to one though.
I use Ragu. I like the taste of theirs the best - I've only used Ragu, Prego, and Newman's Own.
I like Ragu the best. One time I used it and DH (150% Italian) - LOVED it. I like the Roasted Garlic, Tomato & Basil, and Chunky Garden Style.

Re: What is the best jarred sauce?
Dh SWEARS by his mom's sauce....but it takes over 4 hours to make! so as an alternative we buy Ragu flavored with meat. It is pretty good!
We also LOVE vincents sauce but i have never bought it in the supermarket...only fresh from the Vincents in Howard beach.

I like Silver Palate (which I've seen in Shoprite and Waldbaums) and Mama Lombardi's sauces.

Re: What is the best jarred sauce?
I think Prego Traditional is the easiest to use as a base and 'pump up' with flavor. It's got a good consistancy, a nice tomato flavor, decent spices and it doesn't have a chemically or pungent aftertaste. If I am cheating I saute onions and garlic with a hunk of bracciole or pancetta - and then dump in a can of pureed San Marzano tomatoes and a jar of Prego. Easy Peasy.
I see a ton of people LOVE Rao's.. and I think it is OKAY.. but can't justify spending 8 bucks on a jar of sauce.
