Help with a workshop
I have to give a workshop to my fellow teachers in my school. I'm kinda stuck on what I want to do. It's for grades K & 1. I was thinking of doing a how to on the Writing Workshop model, but I'm not sure how that would work for K? (my school doesn't use Writing Workshop at all.
Some topics that were done were: Learning through Play How to Use Gradekeeper
Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Help with a workshop
I suck at art
But poetry, hmmmm I just did a whole thing on it and im pretty sure none of the other teachers did.
I was thinking, doing a workshop having to do with writing because my school doesnt focus on it other than giving a journal topic everyday.

Re: Help with a workshop
I think bringing out something (like writing) that your school doesnt do (yet) is a GREAT idea ! good luck with it !
make it as interactive as possible/ask for ideas / participation /input as much as possible. I think things are most memorable (even to adults ) when it's real-life, hands on, and valuing someone's input is very meaningful so they felt that had a part in the creation of it for the school (if that makes sense),.
would the school later implement this?

I agree as well hands on is the best kinda learning!
I think the goal is to implement the ideas we bring into the classroom and school as a whole.

Possibly, but maybe less strict, i've never done the Teacher's College model, but I heard there are a bunch of rules to it.

Re: Help with a workshop
I have lessons for teaching Writers Workshop (Teachers College Model) if you want a copy of them. During my training in my district we went through every lesson. It is like a script. For a few of the lessons we actually had to do the lesson like we were a student.
Also SnapGrades is SOOOOO much easier than gradekeeper!

Re: Help with a workshop
has the administration given you any idea of what they would like you to present? you want to make sure it's something that's actually applicable and will be useful.
If it's geared to K teachers, maybe something on how to engage parents with the emergent reading/writing that's happening and what they can do at home to support it. also perhaps something on the importance of play in kindergarten and maybe ideas of activities teachers could implement in class and at-home activitiies.

Its geared to basically share our own personal teacher knowledge amongst our coworkers. I'm teaching 2nd & 3rd at the moment, The other teachers are K & 1 (its a small school) I've taught 1st but never K, nor know anyone that has and never learned anything for that age since my cert is 1-6....If it were a workshop for upper grades I'd have no problem, I have many ideas, its the lower grades Im stuck at.
