apartment complex
i know i have talked about this & that i know its not a home but thought u guys can help me out. I narrowed it down to two places. One is in medford & the other is in coram. The medford we love but they increased the price i think by almost $200 so now we are waiting for the special. We didn't look at the coram- but its a townhouse apartment which we would get the upstairs & downstairs. They are very reasonable. Also i heard there are a few other townhouses to rent- anyone know where? Is coram a good neighborhood?

Re: apartment complex
Of course an apartment is a home! You aren't homeless if you rent!! I'm not too familiar with the areas personally. I live in a complaex in Ronkonkoma though but I know they have several complexes throughout long island.
Heatherwood Communities
I believe they have them in Medford and Coram. I'm very happy with where I am. The rent is reasonable for the size and comfort provided, the grounds are well kept and the super's always answer calls.

Re: apartment complex
Which complexes are they? If it's Brookwood in Coram, I've heard bad things. If it's Avalon Pines on the golf course or that new place on Middle Country near 112, I've heard good things about Avalon communities. The new construction one I saw a sign saying $850 move in special, no rent until July or something like that.
Renting or owning doesn't define what a "home" is

Re: apartment complex
I rented in Brookwood in Coram when the units were brand new. At the time the area was fine & the units were huge & it was so nice to having a brand new place. Unfortunatly that was a good 15 years ago, I'm not sure what its like now. you may be able to find a private townhouse rental in a community that is mostly owners not renters. you usually need to go through an agent for that

Re: apartment complex
My friend lives in Brookwood Townhouses with her family and has for years. She is pretty happy there. The Townhouse side is much better than the regular old apartment side. There are alot of families.

Re: apartment complex
Coram is a nice middle-class town but like every town there is an area "not so nice".
Complexes in Coram I'd recommend are Avalon Pines or Brettonwoods.
In the same area you can explore 3 other options:
1) Port Jefferson Village - The Regency Condos
2) Mount Sinai - The Ranches (these are often for rent by owner)
3) Smithtown - Hidden Ponds
Lots of options. Send more info and I can help more.

Re: apartment complex
Saddle Rock is nice - good call.
I do like Fairfield Properties - they maintain their developments really well. I'll send you a FM on this.
The developments I mentioned above:
The Ranches (you purchase these but there are people who rent) - it's an upscale community - http://ranches.hypermart.net/index.html
The Regency (again, you can purchase these but many are for rent) - it all depends if you want to be in the Village as it has pros and cons - no website I know of but there is one for sale on MLSLI http://www.mlsli.com/unidetailsredo_test.CFM?MLNum=2168455&typeprop=1&start=1&rpp=10 (MLS #2168455)
Avalon Pines in Coram is really nice - http://www.avaloncommunities.com/avaloncore/nadvantage.asp?comm=167
forgot 2...
1 - Brettonwood in Coram - http://brettonwoodshoa.org/index.php?m=Home&e=home
2 - Hidden Ponds in Smithtown - http://www.hiddenpondsatsmithtown.com/

Avalon in Coram is fabulous (we have friends & family in there) the small 2 bed, 2 bath is $1800 a month
heatherwood is ok - my friend works for them
brookwood/heatherwood/fairfield are all the same just owned by different people. Coram in Long wood school district.. ok

Re: apartment complex
I would stay away from Fairfield. Don't even get me started on what they did to me when I was 8 months pregnant. If you do a search, it might come up (can't remember if I deleted).
Holtsville is nice..some people on here live in Victorian Gardens and they seem to like it. Did you look at Medford Pond on 112?
