So conflicted...wwyd?
I have gained a fair amount of weight since I got married two and a half years ago (like 35 lbs) DH and I really want to start TTC soon. I am 31 and can't help feeling that time is ticking away. I do want to try to lose the weight and get healthy before getting pregnant, but I also can't wait to begin TTC. I know it may not happen right away. WWYD?

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I've gained about 10-15 lbs in the past year and a half (although I am still pretty thin) but I'm just not as comfortable in my own body as I used to be. Plus, I recently quit smoking so it seems that now I have to be more conscious of what I eat. It's been hard for me bc my entire life I have always been so skinny and NEVER had to exercise and/or diet. However, I realize that getting older (I'm 29 now), it's just not as easy and now I have to work to maintain it. I wanted to be in great shape before having my first baby bc I am worried that if I'm not, I might never be able to get back to it Here is what I decided: I have recently started to be a LOT more health conscious when it comes to food. Not exactly dieting but just being a lot more controlled. I pack lunch for work every day as well as small snacks that I know I will eat. I've asked DH to be supportive and not try to tempt me with things. I have really made an effort to exercise whenever and wherever possible. For example, I take the steps out of Penn Station every morning rather than the escalator (hey, every little bit helps). I started packing a gym bag and leaving it in my car so that when I get off the train, I am more likely to hit the gym (bc I know if I go home to change I will most definitely NOT go back out). I'm in my 2WW now so I am not over exerting myself with exercising. I figure if I get into healthy habits now, I am more likely to continue througout pregnancy and therefore more likley to keep it up afterwards IMO - it's never a "wrong" time to start getting healthy. And if you really want to TTC, then I say go ahead and go for it. There is nothing wrong with trying to get in shape now as well. You will just be limited to what you can eat and what exercises you can do. And of course if you do get PG right away ( ) you should def speak with your Dr. about what is safe and what isn 't. As a amatter of fact, why not ask these questions now? Couldn't hurt right?
WOW, I wrote a lot huh?? It's probably bc I have been thinking about this myself a lot too. If only we were back in the days when women had babies at 16 We would all be such hot little preggos

I agree with the pp - I would start to eat healthy and workout now. If you do become prego in the first month then I would def speak with your doctor on a regimen that is good for you. Good Luck

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I think as long as you are trying to loose the weight slowly and safely it's a good idea to TTC and loose at same time. I yo-yo with my weight all the time I lost some weight for wedding and have managed to keep it off. You never know how long it will TTC so why not go for it. if you loose some weight you will probably feel better and may increase your chances of conceiving. As long as your weight is in a normal range everything should be fine. A very good friend of mine crash dieted for her wedding and got pregnant right away. I took it off slowly and still No BFP. Who knows, age does scare me, I am 32. Best of luck :)

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I hear ya! I was on WW when I spoke to my doc about TTC. I expressed a concern about my weight, especially because I had bad back issues, and he said not to let it stop us from TTC. He said if I continue to eat healthy while PG it's possible I'd continue to lose weight (which is fine as long as the baby is growing and getting what he/she needs). He also said BFing can make you lose weight as well.
So we began TTC. You don't know how long it will take. Just start eating healthy and exercising now and lose the weight while you try.

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I was in the same boat. I gained a lot of weight after getting married and wanted to lose at least some of it before getting pregnant. Well, with everything going on in life, I wasn't really focused on trying to lose the weight and we decided to TTC as we had planned anyway. I got my BFP and my doctor doesn't want me to gain more than 18 pounds throughout my pregnancy - I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick to that, but at 13 weeks, I'm only up 1 pound so far, so I HOPE and PRAY I don't gain too much.
Just be healthy and take life as it comes. And lots of luck (with TTC and the weightloss)!!!!!

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I had the same worry as you. I gained a bit of wieght after getting married (15-20lbs). When we finally decided we were ready to TTC I asked my gyn about my weight and she said that I don't need to lose anything in order to get pregnant... we would just limit the amount of weight I gain WHEN I'm pregnant. Also, she said that just because I've gained weight doesn't mean I'm unhealthy... I later went for a physical and I'm as healthy as a horse.
Good luck!

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I would start trying to lose weight now.
I just joined WW 3 weeks ago and lost 8.2 of the 20 I gained since I got married. My plan is to continue with it until I get pregnant.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
i can relate. i gained over 50lbs since ive been married over 6 years. i stopped taking my bc in june. in july someone asked if i was pregnant and i wasnt and made me sad. i decided to go on a diet and lost 20+lbs in 2- 2 1/2 months. i feel great now but having trouble getting pregnant. not sure if it threw off my cycle or not so i guess its a catch 22 or just my body.

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
Im in the exact same situation; I have put on weight since my m/c and Im afraid to do anything drastic because we are actively TTC.
I HATE the weight gain but I really want to get pregnant so Im just taking it easy. I figure Ill have all the time in the world to get into shape after the baby comes

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I am actually in a similar situation. I want to start TTC early next year, and I recently started seeing a nutritionist and I adapted a pretty good workout routine that I have stuck with everyday. I am losing weight and getting into better shape before I get pregnant. Also, my DR said that whatever I am doing before I get pregnant (as long as it is an established routine and not just a few weeks) that I can do those same things while I am pregnant. Therefore, I am taking all sorts of classes at my gym, continuing doing my cardio and pilates everyday, so that when the time comes, I am continue to exercise and hopefully stay in good shape while I am pregnant.

Re: So conflicted...wwyd?
I highly recommend weight watchers. Follow the plan and you'll lose it. Don't let it stop you from TTC though.
