Insulation
We recently had a leak in the roof. The insulation that was in the rafters collapsed from the weight of the water. I am now being told that insulation doesn't go in the rafters unless an attic will be used as finished space. Does anyone know if this is true or not??
I live in a condo and I want the roofing company that JUST replaced the roof (before the leak) to pay to replace/repair all damage in the attic, but this is how they are deflecting.

Re: Insulation
I believe that's true. Our main attic is just a crawl space and there's no insulation. The attic over the garage (separate from the rest of the house) has insulation and our inspector suggested we take it out. He said it was to let the roof "breathe".

Re: Insulation
I agree. If you have insulation in the attic all the heat will be trapped up there all year. In the warm weather you'll be working overtime to cool down your home. Usually people install attic fans to keep the air moving through and keep your home at a comfortable temperature without using too much energy.

Re: Insulation
i am confused. when we purchased our house we had insulation up in the attic area (you can hunch over in some areas and some areas is crawl) but after a leak in the roof the engineer told us to replace it or add to it (not remove it) but we should place a attic fan since we only have one side vented (the other side is finished vaulted ceiling) - we haven't done anything yet but i am no wondering what to do.
