UTI and pregnancy..what did you dr prescribe?
Just curious to know what you all took if you've had a UTI and pregnant? My dr. prescribed Bactrim which I know a lot of women have taken but I'm sort of weary about it because it's category C

Should I get off the internet and stop reading the stuff it says? It's so scary what they say about these UTI antibiotics and it's "possible" link to birth defects....am I overreacting?

nitrofurantoin which is macrobid.
ive read ur not supposed to use that near the end- they give something else then- like amoxicillin or something.
my best defense has been cranberry juice and lots of it- but it gives me heartburn.
oh and me and DH used condoms the last few times we dtd and also make sure u pee right after. like i will wait til i have to pee and then be like, lets have sex!

I forgot what they prescribed but it was class B, and DH (is a physician) said it was a very safe anitbiotic.

I was prescribed keflex (cephalexin) at 6 weeks for a UTI

I had a UTI very early in my pregnancy - don't remember what I was prescribed - but I read that article on MSNBC about UTI antibiotics and the possible link to birth defects - i actually posted the article on the pregnancy board. My dr and a couple of other ob/gyns and they said the study was not solid. Still, i am not too happy about what it said

I'm still suffering from a UTI. Been admiitted to the hospital twice for it... I'm 37 weeks along and this has been on going for weeks. Can't seem to get rid of it! I've been on the Z-pack (that was for a sinus infection, upper respiratory infection and a touch of bronchoncitis too) then amoxilcillian and then they started me on macrobid. I had a bad reaction to macrobid so no more of that for me.
Going for an amnio today to check baby's lung development and if all is fine they will deliver the baby and give me meds thru IV to knock this out already.
Hope yours is not as extreme as mine and that you get well soon!

I took one of the Bactrim but not taking anymore because I was checked last night and the infection is gone! It probably went away on its own because it took the dr a week to tell me!! I was prescribed Bactrim because of my allergy to penicillin...
Thanks girls!! I'm just going to drink cranberry juice and tons of water from now on to prevent it again.
