Gall Bladder
So DH finally went to the doctor's today after having pains in his right side of stomach for several weeks now.
Doctor is sending him for abdominal ultrasound b/c they think it may be related to gall bladder.
Nothing is for sure until he goes for the ultrasound( & possible blood tests) just wondering how severe the after affects are from the surgery. From my understanding they do it laproscopic.
Also anything he should stay away from when it comes to eating/drinking. Doctor told him not to eat any fatty foods in the meantime.
TIA

I had mine out last week (monday) and it was done laproscopic. I just spent 1 night in the hospital. I was very nauseous and had some vomiting a few hrs after the surgery and into the night.
But once I was home that went away. The worse part was the gas pains that would travel up to my shoulders and into my back. I had a hard time sleeping the 1st night home. My DH picked up gas -x (recommended from the pharmacist) and that helped me to burp...a lot By thursday I was feeling a lot better. I was sent home with oxycodone but only took 1 pill. Mainly to help me sleep.
As for the foods, the dr also told me to stay away from fatty foods and stick to a bland diet. It wasn't too bad.
Hope he feels better

Re: Gall Bladder
My mom had her gallbladder removed a few years ago. She did not even stay overnight in the hospital - they did a laporoscopic surgery very early in the morning and they let her go home. Right after the surgery she had trouble moving around, which will happen with any abdominal surgery and sat in her chair most of the time. For the 6 months after it she had "upset stomach" symptoms (sudden onset diarrhea) and would have to run to the bathroom sometimes.
Now, she just can't eat too much of "rich" foods. Otherwise she is fine, no real lasting effects.
HTH! Edited for clarification

Re: Gall Bladder
He should stay away from any types of alcohol and all fried foods. The laproscopic surgery is a piece of cake. I hear a lot of people are released the same day. When I had it, it was a little later in the day so they kept me overnight. I was sore and gassy the next day, but by the third day I was fine. After the surgery I was told I was fine to eat anything and everything I ate beforehand, there were no limitations once that sucker was out.
