Permanent Substitutes

Is there still a such thing as Permanent subs on Long Island? Every time I look for a sub job I only see per diem, which I'm afraid to do because It's not everyday. 6 years ago I accepted a job as a permanent sub in Jericho only to decline because I got a full time job with benefits in a Catholic school...Now I can't seem to find any!
So for you Long Island teachers is there a such thing still? Thanks!!

Re: Permanent Substitutes

yes, but they are rare. in my building, we have two permanent subs, well what i would consider permanent subs meaning they are in our building every day. however, upon talking to them, they only get paid daily, so technically that would be per diem although they basically have work every day if they want it. i don't know if in my district any subs are permanent (meaning they work everyday and earn a teacher's salary/benefits.)

I'm in a very small school and we have a permanant sub. But even so, we usually need 2+ subs per day b/c there are always conferences and PD going on. And if it wasn't in our school the other schools would need a sub.

With Aesop, I think it's much better for subs. I say, put your name on all sub lists and sub wherever needs someone. It gets your face out there and you can scope out which schools might have a possible opening and try to sub there as often as possible.

Re: Permanent Substitutes

We have 2 permanent subs in my building. They make per diem salary, but are guaranteed their pay every day that school is in session. Our permanent subs "usually" get first dibs at leaves, etc.
