Re: Opinions please... Is Thomas an only child?
I struggle with this too. There is an 8 yr difference btwn my son and my ss and I always wonder what that will mean long into the future. I think it depends on their relationship more than their bloodline, though I know that I could never walk away from my family as easily as I could a friend...ever. It is part of the struggle within me if I want to have another child. Part of me is content with the two boys but then I think that maybe he should have a full sibling just in case. It may make a difference in my mind b/c SS mother put up a child for adoption when she was younger, so technically SS has another sibling out there that my son doesn't have any relation to. Life is very interesting in blended families...sorry I don't have any real answers for you

Thank you so much for your response. It helps so much to know someone else is in the same boat!
My DH doesn't want another child because he has three and four would be too much of a strain financially and stretched too thin time wise to give them each the time he would want to. I am mostly OK with this, but I do struggle sometimes. I feel complete with my wonderful family, but part of me feels like I want another child. I do wonder though if it is mostly because having two children is what I always thought was "ideal" and not because I am really not complete as I am now. Does that make sense?

Re: Opinions please... Is Thomas an only child?
IMO no, Thomas is NOT an only child. Also IMO he's not YOUR only child either, he's your only BIOLOGICAL child.
Kevin and I don't have a biological child together but when we do we're going to do everything in our power to ensure that he/she and DD have the same relationship that full-blood siblings do, even though they'll "only" be half-siblings. DD is almost 13 so there's going to be a large age difference, but hey there's a large age difference between me and Kevin too so maybe it's just our family's "thing"!! Obviously I don't know my furture DC's personality yet, but knowing my DD I'm pretty confident that they will be close as they grow up and become adults.
There's no guarantee that siblings will be close whether they're full, half, step, or otherwise. We shouldn't worry about things that out of our control.
