Worried about getting a Kindle..
My mom wants to buy me one but I have to say, I really don't know if I would like it. I'm worried that I'll get a headache or get dizzy staring at a screen for so long. Plus, I really LOVE the feel of a book in my hand. I don't think it would be the same. Any one else feel this way?

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I actually posted the exact same question about a month ago. I have been using the kindle for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. It took some time to get used to, but I've read 3 or 4 books on it already.

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
The screen technology is completely different than a TV or computer screen. TVs and computers shine the light directly at you, and there is a flicker as it redraws the screen. The flicker and the light shining in your eyes is what give most people the headaches. e-books don't flicker, and they don't project light from the screen.

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I just got the Nook--I had all the same concerns, but I have to say I LOVE MY NOOK.
I do not regret it at all. You can download samples and read the first 15-30 pgs of a book before buying...it is awesome.
Also there is NO glare, so it feels like you are reading a book not a comp.

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
Love Love Love my Kindle.
I travel a lot for work and its SO easy! I still loves books,a nd want to feel the book in my hand, but the Kindle is small, light and easy to carry.
The screen also has EXCELLENT contrast. I have never found my eyes getting tired. Its like reading a book.

I absolutely do which is why I can say with fair certainty that I will NEVER own a Kindle or anything of that kind. I need to feel the book in my hand, touch the pages, smell the paper!

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I have a Nook. And while I held some of the same concerns. A Nook/Kindle is completely different. I actually find it much easier to read and I can read for longer periods of time.
I also love that I can take it to the gym and easily read while on the elliptical without having the book/pages flop around.
I say go for it, you'll love it!

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I see lots of people with them on the train and being nosy, I noticed that it actually looks more like a sheet of paper than a typical computer screen. Not sure if I will ever cave and get one, but for me that's a factor in its favor.

Completely agreed on all counts! My DH wants me to get one because I go through a book a week and I like to own all of my books. Needless to say between my two packed book shelves and my 3 boxes in storage I am running out of book room!

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I LOVE my kindle, problem is I keep buying books for it while I have a stack of "real" books on my shelf to read. :) My favorite thing is the text to speech option, I can listen to books as I commute back/forth to work.

I've had this worry too, but then I also love holding a book, I feel so old fashioned that way. But I'm so particular about books.

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
Everyone I know who has one loves it. However I do not want one because the thought of looking at another screen makes me
I know people say it is different but between the blackberry, computer, screens in meeting rooms I like disconnecting from all the technology when reading.

Re: Worried about getting a Kindle..
I have to say I was very reluctant to get one. I love books, and couldn't imagine reading from a screen. But my kids bought me a Kindle for Christmas, and I haven't put it down since! I bring it with me everywhere, and I love that as soon as I finish one book, I can go right onto the next one. I think I have actually been reading more since I got one.
