FENCE ETIQUETTE??

so my fence completely fell over during saturdays storm..my back neighbors and side neighbors never had their own fence (on any side of their property)..my question is Do we need to replace it??
About 6 months back my DH offered to go half with both of them bc fence was in bad shape. they both said no
Anyway yesterday DH was cleaning up and back neighbor says "wow, this is gonna cost you a pretty penny to fix" and dh says "actually i was planning on getting to know you alot better this summer. "Chat Icon

is there a law that says that bc it was my fence that fell that we need to replace it?

That was a Good answer.
When you do replace your fence just make sure of you property line. I sounds like you neighbors are A_ _ holes. Chat Icon

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

My neighbor's fence fell and we 100% expect them to fix it. I would never think that we were responsible for it.

Actually, they have seen us twice since it fell and assured us that once it got a bit warmer it would be fixed and even apologized for the inconvenience.

I don't think there is a law, but if it were my fence I would assume I had to fix it too.

But I think they would be totally within their rights just to clear the fence and not replace and as a neighbor I would have no qualms with that.

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

I think that it is up to you. There is no law that you need to have a fence at all (unless you have a pool) so if you don't want to fix it you don't have to.

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

I'm not saying that they are responsible for it....but at this point i feel if they want a fence they can put one up themselves..

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

You do not have to replace a fence just cause your neighbors want it.....If you no longer want the fence then keep it down.

The only reason you would have to put it back up is if it is a code issue (pool etc)

If they like the fence so bad give them the number to a fence companyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

you do not need a fence (unless its a code issue because of a pond/pool) so if the neighbor doesn't want to play nice then don't replace it (if its yours) but be prepared to you will not have privacy at all.

Re: FENCE ETIQUETTE??

Even if you have a pool/pond you don't need a fence around the property. You can enclose the water feature with a fence that is up to code. My pool is enclosed in a fence so technically I don't need the one around my property. I just don't want my kids/dog running away.

ahhh true true.

Well, if my neighbors don't put it back up we can't afford the nice PVC fence that they have up so we would have to make due with an ugly one that we could afford LOL we have a dog so we can't leave it like that. They have dogs too so I hope they fix it soon!
