Stomach problems after c-section?
I'm at a loss for what's going on with me.
My c/s was fairly easy, although the incision opened at one end.
About 7 days after, I started feeling sick....nausea, vommiting, constant diarrhea and cold sweats...after 5 days of it so bad, I went to the ER..
They tested me for C-diff and did a cat scan, nothing really showed up. It was thought to be either a long lasting virus or related to intestines being "messed " with.
It faded after a while but never completly...I still had bouts of nausea...and intermittant diarrhea. Sometimes REAL bad for a day or two...I kept saying " I must have a virus".
About 8-9 days ago it started again BAD...Gas, bloating, nausea in AM and CONSTANT diarrhea, stomach cramps.
I'm seeing a few dr's ( OB, surgeon, PCP ) to try and figure this out.
W T H is this?
I just still feel its C/section related since it all started right then....BUT I have read other conditions can start after c/s like IBS etc?
Just looking to see if anyone has gone through anything like this?
TIA

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
Donna - I know we've spoken about this on FM, but you know I'm going through similar. I am seven weeks post c-section and have had non-stop diarrhea since then. No nausea, no sweats, just massive stomach issues. My OB has sent me for tests for everything from C-Diff to Salmonella to Celiac Disease. I'm finally seeing the gastro next Thursday - had to wait two weeks for an appt. My OB thinks it might now be colitis.
See a gastro, sweetie

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
Yes. Me.
DD is now 15 mths and I still have urgency like I never did before. And I still get much more gas than before. And if I eat late, I get horribly sick during the night and have to run to the bathroom. I too was tested for all and was normal. Dr thinks it's colitis that acted up after the pg, which he said is common to happen.
I have to run to the bathroom every morning. I never had that in my life. It is frustrating!!! I am sorry you are feeling so crappy!

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
I haven't had any issues since the c/s.
But maybe you want to try to revamp your diet and see if that helps.

I cant eat anything...I have been l;ving on bananas , toast and rice for a week, when I stray from that at all I'm doomed.
I'm gonna "try" some salad this week/end to see if it helps.

If there is a chance this is colitis, do NOT eat salad, leafy greens are the worst

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
Did you say your insision opened? It could be infected. Mine opened a week later and for 8 weeks I had to have a nurse come in and change the dressings. It was a nightmare and I am happy to say it's over. FM if you want to chat

Watch your caffiene as well.
I know it's hard to watch everything (trust me, I'm having to do it for BFing reasons)
But I have to agree with Kate on the raw veggies/salad...my cousins wife suffers from it and she has to limit raw vegetables or not eat them at all. If she eats them she pays for it dearly.
Also your dairy (cheese milk etc) and spicy sauces...avoid tomato sauces etc...the acidity can cause flare ups. So I would definitely watch what you might eat at Buteras if you're still planning on going there this weekend.

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
I can't offer any advice, but wanted to say it might not be related to your c-section. I had a vaginal birth and after delivering my stomach is not what it used to be. In the very beginning when I had to go, I had to GO! For a long time my stomach was very sensitive. I think pregnancy in general really messes with your internal organs - everything gets shoved around and it takes a while for it all to go back to normal. Hope you find some answers

GALLBLADDER
i didn't have a c-sec, but i had the same symptoms. turns out my bile duct was leaking. probably happened during PG. I was just going to post the same. My friend had the same symptoms (or similar) as you (OP) and after all the tests they discovered it was her gallbladder
I have heard and read that A LOT of women start having stomach issues and/or become very, very gassy after a C/S. My girlfriend was just recently telling me that she wakes up with a terrible, painful gas every single morning since her C/S and her DD is almost 3. I have also been having little stomach issues here and there since having a C/S 2.5 yrs ago. I spoke to my OB/GYN (not the same one who did the C/S) and she said that it's normal for most women to develop stomach issues after having a C/S , according to her in my case it's most likely caused by the scar tissue.

day 4 of no coffee now...no dairy in days..well a bit but no cheese/milk....Buteras...ahhhhh....still debating if I bite the bullet and eat and pay the price or not...TBD But good to know bout the salad...I think I will hold off on those plans now.

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
I have had the same thing. Been in the hospital for 4 days after having a c section and new baby. It has been hard and this really sucks. I just wish it would go away. I felt like I was dying when it was flaring up. Left hosptial yesterday and still don't feel much better. But have meds to help. Still think my gall bladder is not working right

Re: Stomach problems after c-section?
i see this is an old post but this is me
stomach problems began day 2-3 and now at 11 day PP, i still have diarhhea (painful, like my colon is about to explode when i go, like its trying to push everything and anything out so forcefully TMI) and i am on anti-nausea meds the nausea was SO bad for the first week that I literally ate NOTHING, couldnt keep water down.
i gained 16lb during pregnancy and at 11d pp, im down 28
i do have the sweats but ive read its hormonal and normal. took my 6 days PP to have a bowel movement so maybe that had something to do with my stomach issues
i have my 2 week followup and incision check on friday so we will see what my OB says.
I STILL find it very odd that I only bled for 3 days - nothing since. i wonder if that has anything to do with it? anyone else have little to no bleeding post-op?
