Re: Doulas

i think having a doula is an excellent idea. I'm pg with my first, so i don't have any experience with a doula or anything, but i understand that they can be extremely helpful, whether giving you support or sticking up for what you want or are against in the hospital. if i have a hospital birth then i will most likely be hiring a doula.

Re: Doulas

I've heard great things about doulas and from what I have seen on shows like A Baby Story and the episode of 19 Kids and Counting where Josh and Anna had their baby... doulas seem like they are amazing, esp. when the woman isn't having an epidural. There was one episode of A Baby Story where the woman had a doula and was planning on going natural and just couldn't do it anymore and asking for meds but the doctors weren't really listening to her so the doula was really vocal in letting the staff know what the woman wanted.
I had mentioned it to DH but he doesn't think that we need a doula. He thinks that what a doula does, that he is suppose to be doing... being supportive, helping, etc. But I think that sometimes you need someone not so emotionally connected to the situation to get you through it, someone who has been there before and knows exactly what to do

just wanted to say that a doula wouldn't be taking over what dh is doing and would be helpful to both you and dh....

here's a cool website about it all that i thought was pretty interesting..
