Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
A friend just told me that during visiting hours at Winthrop they keep the baby in the nursery? Is this true? the baby is not allowed in your room during visiting hours? So noone can hold or see the baby up close?

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
The baby is in your room from 9am (about) until 6pm. Once the night time visitors come they lock the babies up in the nursery.
You will want it this way bc the majority of your visitors will probably come at night and it's too many germs for a newborn IMO.
You get the baby back after every visitor has left the floor (around 8:30-9pm)

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
back in 2007 when i had DS, visiting hours were just from 6-8 and the baby was taken to the nursery during that time. now they changed it to 1-8 and the baby is in the room for most that time. i actually prefer the original way bc honestly, i dont want ppl holding the babies when they are still so "new"...

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
as of last month, baby hours are 9am - 9pm unless you want the baby to go back to the nursery. they feed at 1pm, 5pm, 9pm, 1am, 5am, 9am so the baby would go back to you during those hours in the night if you want to FF or BF
visiting hours are 1pm - 8pm and the baby can be there the WHOLE time

the only time the baby is not with you is when they are in the NICU.

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
do they still not let kids in to visit you unless they are your own? I have lots of nieces and nephews who will be dying to come meet their new cousin!

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
FYI your friend probably had a baby back before they changed the visiting hours like I did. From 2-4PM was grandparents/siblings and the baby could be with you. Other visiting hours was 6-9 and the baby had to be in the nursery. Have to kind of admit i like that idea better.

Re: Winthrop and visiting hour/baby?
i had dd2 two weeks ago. baby comes to you from about 9am-9pm, unless you want them to go back to the nursery. visitors can come from 1-8pm and DH can come starting at 10am. they allow visitors under 18 now but they want no more than 2 people by your bedside...that being said, if you don't have a huge crowd and they are well behaved/aren't there long, the nurses don't kick them out. you can also take a crowd of visitors to one of the lounges for a visit with you and baby.

Do they let the babies stay in your room over night? Or do they have to go back to the nursery at 9pm?

I went for orientation last night and they said they take the baby back to the nursery and the baby does not sleep in the room with you. If you are breastfeeding, then they bring the baby back every 2-3 hours.

Then again, on the website it says differently. I think if you have a private room you should be able to.

it depends on whether or not they are paying attention
my 8 month old niece made it in and i saw other small children. it also really depends on whether or not you have a private or semi-private room.
i had a private room and no one ever checked who was in the room or how many people we had at one time. at one point, there were 8 visitors in my room

they do return the babies at 9pm to the nursery. if you request, they will bring the baby back to you at 1am and 5am for feedings
