"It's not my responsibility"

Even in these tough economic times, I find it amazing the amount of time and energy certain people waste on what they WON'T do.

And how they try to push off their work on others. Especially when they are getting paid a higher salary for often, less work!

I honestly can't stand that. I feel like certain individuals get away with it too and it drives me insane.

Yup. Guess I should've been a nurse instead of a social worker because many of them (often who have less education and experience) treat me like I am their personal assistant.

(No offense to you if you are a nurse!!).

It's sad too because I've had so many nursing supervisors tell me that this is "just the way it is" because they will walk off the case otherwise if they don't get their way. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ohhhhhhh you are preachin to the choir here!! how many times have nurses said to me "but PT gets them out of bed!". UMM excuse me but nurses know how to do transfers thank-you-very-much. NOT bashing nurses, they are AMAZING and lord knows I could never do what they do (they do take a lot of c rap) but I also feel like the assistant at times. Chat Icon

Re: "It's not my responsibility"

Definitely part of the reason i'm so glad i left the hospital! I was lucky that, for the most part, the aides knew that i worked my azz off (usually doing their job, too), so i didn't need to have a nightly debate with them over why i needed them to do their jobs (as some other nurses did), but the times that it did- it usually resulted in my just doing their job b/c i couldn't deal with their BS, b/c in the end, the patient suffers and everyone looks incompetent.

I do HATE though (like, serious pet peeve of mine) when people say things like, "well, you know the nurses COULD get them out of bed too." As if they're all just hanging out around the water cooler shooting the sh*t. I remember being 38 weeks PG, running a code, timing compressions on the patient while trying to time my contractions separately at the same time. The whole time, another pt keeps ringing the bell b/c he wants to get up to his chair. We finally get the coding pt stable enough to transfer to MICU, i sit down to put the chart together for transfer and get all of his meds together. The aide comes back from her break as i'm at the desk getting all of the meds and chart together and starts going off about how she has to do everything and its ridiculous that no one got the other pt out of bed. I seriously flipped. Like i said... this thread reminds me of what a great decision it was to leave the hospital Chat Icon

Re: "It's not my responsibility"

I think another thing I've noticed is that the people who complain the most are usually per diem/pt employees who do this as their "2nd job" so they're really not invested with the clients they are supposed to be servicing. At least it's been a common denominator with some of the nurses I've run across. They want to just get in and out in 15 minutes, having clients sign off on blank paperwork, and collect their quick $50.00 or more for the visit.

I've also run into issues with aides too.........it's the healthcare industry overall. They don't report anything to you, but you can be darn sure if their paycheck is off by 2 cents they will be calling you to complain until your ears bleed. Chat Icon

We've definitely had alot of Per Diems leave because they just wanted to do (quick) revisits and not SOCs. Its nice when you get a quick revisit, but it shouldn't be the standard that you accept cases on, imo.

I do have to say though (and maybe it's just because i'm not affected by it as much as compared to on the unit) but i've found, so far, that the work ethic (again, generalizing) for the aides in the home has been much better. Maybe it's b/c they're more invested in the pt, or b/c they only have 1 at a time, but i've found the "lazy HHA" to be more of the exception in homecare than it was in the hospital.

Re: "It's not my responsibility"

I'm a dance instructor and as such am a private contractor.

I had the lady in office ask me to type up a list of all my students names in alphabetical order so she could print up the recital performance programs.

Uhhhhhh Last I checked SHE was the "office manager" last I checked SHE puts her name after "program created by: ______" at the bottom

F^ck NO!!!! So i said "Um No"

and she replied with

"Thats NOT MY JOB" I then told her "Well it certainly isn't MY JOB so give it to the boss to type up"

Two hours later- she handed me a typed copy to check for errors.
