Steroids?

ok ladies so I need some advice...my doctor is recommending that I take steroids at 28 weeks to help the babies lungs in case they are born early. Did your doctor ask you to do this and what was your decision? I am so torn. Part of me wants to wait to see if it will be necessary and part of me is saying to just do it in case of emergency. Help!!!!

I took it at 28 weeks just as a precaution. I went to 36 weeks and the kids were all fine and nobody had any issues. I would say to take the shot bc if you do go into preterm labor at least you took the shot to give the kids a better chance of lung developement....but thats just my opinion.

I had them at 28 weeks and it's a good thing I did because I had them at 30 weeks! My dr. said it's only a precautionary and can't do any harm. He gave the example of having car insurance; you hope you never need it but have it just in case you do. I would say go for it, if something were to happen it might be too late for the steroids to kick in and do their job.

i had steroids with both of my pregnancies. with my first DS i had them at 32 weeks bc i was dilated (DS was born at 38 wks). with my twin PG my dr gave them to me at around 28 wks as a precaution bc i was high risk (had them at 35 wks). there is absolutely no adverse affect to having gotten the steroids.

I had both doses.God forbid they are born premature they will need them.

My sister never got them, and at 32 weeks went into preterm labor, they gave them to her at the hospital, and an hour later she gave birth to the babies

I would say to get it, i wish my sisters doctor would of given it to her at 28 or 29 weeks as a precaution, because the babies lungs are not developed and they are still on respirators for breathing problems, its very sad

I received the steroids twice actually (4 total shots)

Once at 25 weeks and the once at 31 weeks..

I had gone into preterm labor twice...

They were born at 35 weeks with no breathing problems at all...

Even if u r feeling fine now, things can change quickly and the babies can come sooner than u expect.

If your dr is recommending sterroids, I say go w/ what the dr says.

There is nothing worse than having to leave one of your DC in the NICU and having to go visit him/ her. It is the worst feeling in the world. Anything the dr wants to do to help w/ lung development....go for it.

i am surprised it was never even mentioned to me so no i never had them, but if it can't hurt then yes do it

I was 1-2 cm dilated at 28 weeks so i had the steroid shots (i was scared to death but knew it was for the best) my boys were born at 31 weeks. They were on a ventilator for a few days and c-pap for about 4-5 weeks.

I did at 30 weeks. My babies came at 34. I had no signs they would come early.

I got them at 30 weeks when I was in the hospital with premature contractions.

My OB mentioned to me that at 26 weeks she may recommend them. I guess we will see what happens when the time comes.
