Flu Shot side effects?
I got the flu shot Monday and I started having a slight sore throat yesterday and tonight I feel like poop. Tired, achey, sore throat. I haven't been sick like that in a long time and I have never gotten the flu shot before.
Do you think it's a side effect? Sick from flu shot (despite medical proof that that's impossioble)? An unrelated bug?
I was planning on giving it to DD but after feeling like this I'm second guessing myself.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
I dont know about the medical proof, but most people I know who get a flu shot feel under the weather as a result. Correct me if Im wrong, but the flu shot IS a small amount of nonactive flu virus to get your body to build immunity to it. As far as I know, thats what all shots are.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
it's not uncommon to feel a little effects of the shot. after all, they are injecting strains of the flu into you!
i heard that it is also the swine flu shot mixed in. was that true in your case?

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
I think all seasonal flu shots have the H1N1 in it now.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
I just got the flu shot on monday but I was told it was not a live vaccine and I should not (will not) get a reaction.
however, i did feel under the weather yesterday but am better now and I wasn't feeling so hot last week.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
Both DS and I got the shot and each had a "reaction". That night he had 102.5, the next day he had an on/off fever with a runny nose. I got stuffy and felt completely run down a few days later.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
My sister and several other people I know got sick or a "reaction" from it. They have never done this combination before in 1 ****. Maybe it changes the chemical make up and that is why people this year are getting sick from it.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
I feel better today but ugh, this is why I never get it. I don't like the whole idea of it.
Now I sill have to decide whether or not to give it to DD

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
Every year the flu shot is different from the year before. Scientists predict the 3 most common strains of the flu and those are the strains that make up the flu shot. So this year, the H1N1 strain just happens to be in the shot. After getting the shot, it takes 2 weeks for your body to develop the antibodies against those 3 strains of flu, so it is also possible to get the flu right after getting the shot because you aren't protected for 2 weeks.
Because the flu shot contains the dead virus, you can't actually get the flu from the shot, but here are the possible side effects:
Vaccine Side Effects (What to Expect) Different side effects can be associated with the flu shot and LAIV. The flu shot: The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Some minor side effects that could occur are:
Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given Fever (low grade) Aches
Here is a good link to the CDC with a lot of good information about the flu shot.
CDC flu shot info
Personally, I have gotten the flu shot the last 2 years, in addition to the separate H1N1 shot last year (while I was pregnant) and I never had any reaction.
Hope you feel better!

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
DD got hers on Tuesday and today, has a fever, cough and diarrhea. However, my nephew was sick with those same symptoms when we saw him last week, so I am sure its that.

Re: Flu Shot side effects?
I get it every year and there have been years when I've sworn I felt a little off from getting the flu shot. But this year I had no reaction at all other than a mildly sore arm for about 24 hrs. Feel better!
