Since your relationship is already strained with her, and since she seems to view any advice from you with disdain, it may be best to let your DH or maybe even MIL approach the subject with her. You confronting her directly may just add fuel to the fire or be met with a set of rolling eyes, ya know?

You could even just post a video or two or even an article on facebook and hope she "gets it". Maybe slip a pamphlet into her diaper bag even.

My MIL won't say a cross word to her. She has threatened taking the grandkids away from her if she doesn't do as she says. so it's a difficult situation all around.

I think i may annomously mail her a pamplet every day. see if she gets the hintChat Icon

Re: WWYD- 2 yr old in a car seat

My friend did the same exact thing when her daugher was 2 years old... and then she continued to tell me that even when she puts the straps over her DDs shoulders, she still gets out of them. I was still pregent so I didn't know how the seats worked, but now I know that if they can get out then they don't have the straps on properly. I havnt seen her since, but I am interrested to know how she's buckled. Bothers me still...

Is it possible that she can't keep the 2 year old restrained? What if he keeps removing them and doesn't listen? Exactly how is she going to force him?

ITA. My DS is 3 and he has gotten out of his straps numerous of times. I put him in with them and i make them tight but he somehow gets out of them.

Sometimes even if you have the straps on properly they can get out of them. I usually stop the car and keep putting the straps back on.

Re: WWYD- 2 yr old in a car seat

I would tell her this:
Do you know if a child is not buckled according to the Law and there is an accident of any kind the insurance company can refuse to cover the the accident? Then if she does not fix it, call 911 and tell them.
This is your nephew's life and that is more important than "he does not like it"..tough spot but you should say something.

That's very interesting, never thought of it that way.

I talked to DH and he doesn't think it's our place to say anything and doesn't want to make any more family waves. I will however, talk to my BIL who is an officer of the law and her brother, and tell him that he better do and say something to her.

I would send her some links on car seat safety and that youtube video that was floating around on here. The one where it shows dummies not strapped in properly in an accident. (can somoene bump that?) After she sees that, I would be shocked if she still didn't buckle him in properly.

Re: WWYD- 2 yr old in a car seat

My kids occasionally flip their wig when we try to get them in. TOO BAD. This vehicle does not move unless everyone is in their carseats with all straps buckled. I'm sure this boy is going to be a reall ball as a teenager woth a Mother who can't suck it up for a week until her kid realizes she is in chargeChat Icon
