dr's fees
i had my first dr appt 2 weeks ago and i have another one tomorrow. yesterday i got a bill in the mail from my dr for $82 and it doesnt even say what it's for. i paid my $20 co-pay at the office during my first appt. im assuming something didnt go through with my insurance by mistake, but i'll have to talk to them about this when i go tomorrow cause im not paying it.
has this happened to anyone else??

Re: dr's fees
Only at the high risk doc, did I have to pay anything extra due to something not being fully covered by insurance. Instead of a $15 co-pay, I was told once to pay $47. That happened once so far.
At my regular OB office, they told me that I didn't have to pay any co-pays until after the baby is born, based on my insurance.

Re: dr's fees
My OB gave me a bill at my second appointment where they basically estimated all the fees that I would have based on my insurance and their planned scheduled appointments.
I had one extra appointment when I had a fever once and I got a bill for the extra $20 copay (since they don't collect it on the spot since they figured you'd paid ahead).
I believe our bill was around $600 total and included all copays.
You should call your doctor's office and see how they plan to bill you and whether they know what your insurance covers so you don't end up surprised or fighting charges later on.
Our insurance just changed, though, so I don't know if we're going to have to sit down again and figure out what the difference will be.

Re: dr's fees
I've had one copay during our first visit, but that's been it so far. I'm 19 almost 20 weeks and it seems like so far everything has been covered in full. I would talk to the doctor's office and then call the insurance and see what wasn't covered.

Re: dr's fees
that just happened to me actually!
i've had 2 appts so far. 1st was to confirm pregnancy. she did a pap i think and that was it. the second was a sono. i got a bill on friday for $92 for charges not covered by insurance.
my health plan says something about no copays during pregnancy and my job told me to contact my dr's office to see how they handle that. i guess they are supposed to call the insurance company and find out?

this is mine too. . I haven't been billed for anything extra so far. . just co-pay for dr and then once for the nutritionist. . now I suddenly am panicked i'll get more. . I've had blood work and sonos all months ago and haven't gotten any extra bills. .

Re: dr's fees
Ugh, we've paid a lot. We also pay for our own insurance. My last visit I didn't pay a co-pay. I was shocked.
We did pay a ton for some of our tests, over $600. We have to meet our deductible unfortunately.

Re: dr's fees
With my Drs office I only had to pay the first initial visit copay and they told me that I wouldn't have to pay anymore copays throughout the pregnancy. The only time I pay is when I have to go to Good Sam for my special sonos. I hope I don't get any surprise bills either!!

Re: dr's fees
I have received many bills thatend up being a mistake made by the doctor or insurance so definitely ask before you pay. My bills weren't pg related because I haven't gone to my first appt yet but I never trust the bills I get because they are always wrong.

Re: dr's fees
My insurance covers 80% so we paid the 20% over four payments to the office. Which stinks b/c it was around $163 per month.

Re: dr's fees
thanks ladies. when i checked in at the dr tonight they told me i had a balance before i even got to ask them lol. apparently, my insurance doesnt fully cover everything and my balance was for the sono i had at my first appt. i dont have to pay co-pays though.
im sure i'll be getting another bill after this appt for my sono and blood work. ugh!
