Can't get DD to take pacifier

I am breastfeeding my 3 week old DD and she'll take a bottle, but refuses a pacifier. She's been using me as a pacifier lately and I would really like to sleep sometime. We've tried three different brands. Any tricks?

Re: Can't get DD to take pacifier

Just keep trying. My DD was the same way...she would spit them out. The only ones she kept in were the soothies, because we put our fingers in the hole to help her keep it in. I've tried every kind of paci, and she still only likes the soothies. Chat Icon She's 3m/o now and finally keeps them in lol.

Neither one of my kids ever took one, it actually got them more PO'ed than anything...I think some kids just dislike them ...Maybe she's still a little hungry ?? Chat Icon

DS really doesn't like it either. Never has. He thinks you're messing with him. Nipple and no milk = no no Chat Icon

Re: Can't get DD to take pacifier

I EBF and my daughter never really takes it. The only way she will take it is if she is exhausted, and in the car. Then she kind of chews on it anyway. I use to try putting a little BM on it. Try that.

I tried for 4 months, buying every brand possible. I just gave up, oh well.

Re: Can't get DD to take pacifier

DD could only hold on to the Nuk ones - the Soothies, Avent, etc. - all would fall out, but Nuk she could hold onto.

DS never took a pacifier. Figured it was better that way anyway...one less habit to break later on and it taught his how to soothe himself at a very early age.

Re: Can't get DD to take pacifier

DS wouldn't take one until the 3 month mark. He would spit them out. It may have also been coincidence since I was going back to work and happened to try MAMs for the first time. They also happened to be the 6 month size. I was looking at the 0-3 and they looked too small for DS. It did the trick and now they are still the only kind he will take.

I tried a few different kinds and DD wanted no part of a pacifier. I was a little happy with that because I now didn't have to worry about breaking her of the habit. Chat Icon

i tried and tried and she never took. now she's a finger sucker and soothes herself. kind of glad because i never have to worry about a paci falling out and having to wake at 3am to put it back in!

same exact thing with my DD. From day one she never took the pacifier and by about 3 months or so became an avid finger sucker....my only concern is weaning her from finger sucking in the future!

Exactly how I felt...I gave up after the first week or two.
