I just got off the phone with EdgePark and they said HIP doesn't cover the pump. I called HIP and they too said they don't cover the pump, am I doing something wrong ? Should I be asking to speak with someone other than customer service rep?
Thanks

I would think it is not covered then. The only thing I would say is you can try calling HIP again, perhaps the person you spoke to gave you the wrong info. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it depends on the HIP plan you have. I know when I called and asked they looked it up based on my member # and I have HIP Prime. I said I had heard that a brest pump may be covered under my insurance and thought I would check. It did take the rep a little investigating but I got an answer.

I also have Hip Prime and they said it is covered 100%....dr. just needs to send over a request. I hope they will do it - I go bck at the end of this week and will ask them then!

Empire - UHC does NOT cover it at all. I am very surprised by this

I called them also and they said only time they'll cover is if baby is NICU. After birth coverage Chat Icon

Ok I am officially getting mine covered at 100%

All I had to do was e-mail the supply company that HIP gave me and they sent all the info to my dr. He apparently sent the prescription right back and they just contacted me to ask me if I wanted manual or electric and that it would be delivered today Chat Icon

I'm not sure of the brand. I'll update when I receive it!

This is good to know. At my next visit I'm going to have my dr. send over the request.

Re: PSA: Update on breastpump coverage by insurance!

I just called over to my insurance ( United helathcare) and edgepark and was told that until last year Oxford did cover breast pumps under DME as long as they were under $500. However as of last year they no longer it.

to keep.

I ordered mine and was told I had a $100 deductible and had to pay 20%.

I don't know how but in the end it cost only $126 for the $490 (their list price) Medela Freestyle.

My dr did need to sign off on somethign before they shipped and he did, I don't know what it was. Maybe it was deemed medically necessary since I am having a repeat C/S?

Thanks to the info I got from Michelle.....I just got 100% coverage for the same pump.

I don't really know that there's much difference between the Ameda and the Medela other than the brand name. I'm so excited!!!

oh, I also have HIP Prime

I would still call b/c even though u have the same insurance, u do not have the same plan. Yours may be covered.

Re: PSA: Update on breastpump coverage by insurance!

I'm bumping this -- does anyone who got the breast pump know the HCPS code for any of the items? (Particularly the Medela Freestyle pump?)

I don't see the item on the Edgepark site and my insurance wants the HCPS number to see if it qualifies.

Did anyone who got the pump have GHI?

I am just seeing this now. They have the freestyle, it is just not on the website. I would call Edgepark and find out if you haven't already.

I got the FreeStyle through Edgepark for free. SO i know they have it too, maybe just not on the website

I would go through Edgepark first, before asking insurance.

That is great news!! I got the Free Style for FREE too a few months ago. It's so worth making the call.
