Re: Advice Needed - Work Related

Honestly, I would look for a new job. Things are only going to get worse if you stay. Good luck!

ITA. If your MIL cannot define the the line between work and non-work, that's her problem - but you should not be expected to act the same.

I don't see the situation getting any better since your boss likely expects the same level of accessibility that he has with your MIL. Doesn't make it right, though.

ITA. You are right and your boss and MIL are wrong. Time to start looking for a new job before this one adds any more stress to your marriage.

I agree, try and get a new job, but in the mean time, I would tell DH and MIL that your job is your business, MIL should not call your DH about your job, the two should be separate issues.

1. I would or have DH tell MIL that you will be speaking the atty to let him know that he wants you to be "on call" after hours then you need a large bump in salary. If not, the cell phone is OFF at 4:30.
2. I would have the talk with the attorney and let him know same.
3. I would look for another position.
4. There is a job open at my firm in RiverheadChat Icon

Re: Advice Needed - Work Related

I work for and with family, and I hate when un-related issues get in the middle.

Unfortunately, I do think you will be better off looking for something else.

I think the entire first paragraph is you knowing that this may not be the best job for you right now (but was at one time). Sounds like you know you would be better appreciated and paid more elsewhere.

Best of luck, it's not an easy thing to deal with Chat Icon

Re: Advice Needed - Work Related

I would look for a new job rather than work with my MIL. In addition, I would immediately ask for the boss to pay for my cell phone if he wants to use it for business.

Re: Advice Needed - Work Related

Everyone needs boundaries here. I'm a social worker and my phone is off at 5:00.

If something serious happens with one of my clients, the powers that be know how to reach me and they never abuse it.

99% of the time, emergencies that happen can be dealt with by on-call staff, and the follow up can wait until the next business day.

Just because your MIL is neurotic about being at his beck and call doesn't mean you need to be. I'd confront them both on Monday morning, and in the meantime, send resumes out and interview. It's always good to do this anyways IMO.

I'd also ask if being on-call is now part of my job description, and how will I be compensated for it?

Re: Advice Needed - Work Related

You need to make a change. Mixing family and work is not usually a healthy environment and your relationship with your DH is the the most important thing.

I know there is a Legal Technology Consultant position open at my company as well as Executive Assistant positions (I just looked at our company postings). Let me know if you are interested in any of these---I work in Times Square and would be glad to help!

I'd look. Don't feel bad. You need to focus on yourself and your marriage.

Get the heck out of there. This convenient job is now inconvenient.

This will not get better.
