12 m.o. milk & bottle

Is anyone else having a tough time switching from formula to milk?
We went to ped last week & they told us to switch to whole milk and to do it gradually if necessary (part formula part milk reducing formula until we use none). We have been doing that and we've got it down to 2 ozs formula and 6 ozs milk.
Now heres the other problem, he refuses to drink this lovely mixture from a cup. So to ensure that he is getting the calcium we have had to give it to him in a bottle. We've gone from 4 8oz bottles a day to 2 8oz bottles with water sippy cups throughout the day. He will take water out of a sippy cup but not milk.
He's a very good eater and will eat just about anything you put in front of him. Am I being crazy worrying about the milk consumption? Please, anyone with insight, HELP!

Give him some time. Gradually switch him over to sippy, no need to rush right into it. Get him use to the milk first, then concentrate on a sippy.

If it helps, my DS wouldn't take milk from a straight sippy, he only took milk from the straw ones. (even still at 15 months, he won't take his milk in any other sippy other then straw)

DD also will not take milk from a sippy. I got her to like one type of sippy but so far we have only switched the morning bottle to a sippy.

I agree with PP, give him time to adjust to the milk first, then eliminate bottles. DD is almost 13 months and as I said, still gets afternoon and night botttles.

ETA 16oz a day of milk is fine. Thats what my DD gets- in addition to yogurt and cheese!

I know 2.5 yr olds who still take their milk only from a bottle...I wouldn't stress over it. I think that is something with most babies...they want their milk in a bottle. As "they" say...they won't go to college drinking out of a bottle - I really wouldn't stress over it.
12 mos is young IMO to be forcing the sippy.

Thank you all so much. He does have a straw cup but again, he'll only drink water out of it. I thought it was a little young to switch and slightly overwhelming to switch formula and bottle at the same time. I know that he knows how to drink from a straw so I'm not overly concerned but they (peds and sometimes other parents) make you feel like you're so far behind if you're not doing exactly what the book says.
I cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to respond and help calm some fears!

We transitioned him in the bottle first, and then introduced the sippy cup and milk after he was good with that.

Did you go straight milk in the bottle at first? DS doesn't seem to really be digging milk that much so we've been going 1/2 & 1/2 and he'll take that. Chat Icon

Every day, I increased the milk in all of his bottles by 1 oz, and decreased the formula by 1 oz. By the end of the week, he was drinking all milk. BUT, he wouldn't drink cold milk out of the fridge, I needed to head it up a bit (since he had been drinking room temp formula).

He only really drank water out of his sipply until we got rid of the bottle. He associated the bottle with milk, and wouldn't drink it out of the sippy for quite some time.

I'm a 'mean' Mommy LOL... At 6 months I intruduced him to sippys... if he drank out of them cool, if not, no biggie. The day after his birthday, I dropped the bottles to only one. He will only go to sleep with his bottle... so far soo good. He's still drinking his 24oz of milk a day, 2 cups of water... but he is still looking for that bottle. LOL. he puts up a fight sometimes, or he'll refuse to hold the sippy and make me hold it...but each day he's getting better and better... But, each child is totally different. I plan on totally getting rid of the bottle in another month or so...
