starting solids
My twins are 6 mo and we started purees (not totally consistently) at around 5 mo. I am having such a hard time fitting it into their feeding schedule. And, when I do feed them, I have a hard time balancing feeding them both. I usually have two bowls and two spoons (so, maybe I need to change that) and give a spoonful or two to one baby, then the other, and so on.
Does anyone have any tips for feeding them both at the same time and for how to schedule it in (before bottles, after bottles, at the same feeding, etc)?
TIA!

Re: starting solids
I was having the issue so here is what I do. I feed then solids in the middle of two bottles. So if they have a bottle at 8am then they get solids at 930 and their next bottle at 11. If they are napping and don't wake up in time I will feed them their solids right before the bottle. Sometimes it doesn't work because they are cranky and all they want is the baba but I try!
As far as feeing together I have them intuit highchairs next to each other and I sit in front of them. I have two separate bowls and spoons. I give one baby a few spoons then the other baby and repeat. I usually have to sing old McDonald to keep the baby that is waiting occupied otherwise their is a lot of crankiness!
Hope that helps a little!

Re: starting solids
as far as feeding them at the same time, i usually have them in the highchairs right next to each other , have 2 bowls ,2 spoons and just give one a few spoons then repeat with the other. and just go back and forth.
i always do solids right before nap time. so their first solid is always at 9am , then naptime 9:30.. then when they wake up they get a bottle, then another solid before the next nap. and so on.
so basically they get solids before naps and bottles after naps!

I guess I'm the odd man out. I always did one bowl and one spoon. One bite to one of them, then feed the other one a bite. It was soooo much quicker that way.

Re: starting solids
i do two bowls 2 spoons, i feed one then the other right after. they dont mind waiting. i had a hard time fitting cereal and fruit/veggies into my day too, we finally have been on a schedule that works for all.
wake-up bottle (can be from 6am to 8am) 10am fruit or veggie 11am bottle 2pm bottle 5pm bottle 7pm bottle 8pm cereal
I tried doing bottle at 8 and cereal at 7 but found the cereal held them over better at night, Ped said it was fine to give at night.

Re: starting solids
We do:
7:30 am - bottle 10 am - cereal & veggie or cereal & fruit 10:30 am - bottle 2:00 pm - bottle 5:00 pm - bottle 8:00 pm - bottle 9:30 pm - bottle
right now I am trying to get rid of that last feeding at 9:30... the plan is to start feeding them solids again around 6:30pm, and then one last bottle at 8:30pm.
I feed them either side by side in highchairs (each have own bowl and own spoon) or even easier is to do one after the other. They usually take a short nap right before the morning cereal so whoever wakes up first gets fed first and it goes so quick when its one baby! By the time he/she is done the other baby is waking. Then that baby gets his/her cereal. Then they will have their bottles usually at the same time.
It is very time consuming. I have been dreading adding the 2nd solid feeding.

Re: starting solids
im preggo with twins now so im not sure with twwwins but i have a two year old and as far as when to fit in the food i forget how old she was since she is over 2 now but i use to do it once a day at a young- more for practice since they still get most of their nutrition from the bottles...
anyway id feed her right before her lunch bottle like half a container of food or as much as she would 'take' then let her drink as much or as little of her bottle as she wanted- i only did that for lunch as she got older and older and ate more food she would eat about half of her bottles

Re: starting solids
i started giving my boys solids early, around 4 months. i initially planned on doing 2 separate bowls and spoons, but that quickly changed! they go crazy when they see the other get a spoonful of food, there is no way i can take the time to switch spoons or even feed them a separate times. i have found that it is just so much easier to share everything!
they are 8 months old tomorrow, but this is the schedule they have been on since 6 months:
7 am: formula
9:30 am - cereal/fruit
11:30am - formula
2:30pm - cereal/fruit & veggie mix small bottle of formula if they are still hungry (our dr said we can give them yogurt/fruit at this feeding, but they had a reaction to it so we are waiting a few months before trying again)
5:00pm - formula
6:00pm - grain (ie: rice, cereal, pasta) w/veggie (+ meat, we just started a few weeks ago)
8:00 - formula right before bed
