CIO - never again!
After over an hour of rocking DD & putting her down only for her to start crying, I decided to try CIO once again. DD was tired, it was obvious so I thought CIO would work.....
She was hysterical after 2 minutes, practically hyperventilating after 5!
I tried to rub her tummy, reassuer her, get DH to help out.... Nothing worked! After 10 minutes, I picked her up.and she immediately stopped crying!
It then took over 2 hours of trying to calm her down (she kept shaking and occasionally heaving!)
I dont ever want to put her through that again but I also cant spend hours rocking her to sleep evrry night! What do I do???

How old is DD? I had tried cio a few times before DD was 1 and it didn't work either. At 1 it worked. Also cio is not for everyone. Do u have a routine at bedtime? What about her falling asleep to music?

Re: CIO - never again!
She is 6 1/2 months.
Our bedtime routine is: bath, story, nurse while in the glider and lyllabyes in the glider. She usually falls asleep this way and, though she might wake up the first time I put her down, she will usually be fast asleep within a half hour after her bath.
The past few nights have between rough..... I'm off from work so her routine is off, she has a lot of congestion, and she is teething.
Ive tried music (w have three fisher price previous planet soother) but that seems to wake her up. I usually sing her a lullabye and that works. I might try some classical music

Re: CIO - never again!
I think she is young & you have plenty of time to try cio again another time. If she is teething and congested that is probably why she is off.....when dd teethes omg she is actually up a few times a night. Your routine at night sounds great and if your off from work now that also is diff routine for her. I don't see anything wrong w/ what you are doing and try again when she is feeling well and a little older. If dd didn't take to it quickly at 1 year I would not let her cry that long either.....u r doing great!!!!

Re: CIO - never again!
CIO definitely isn't for us either. It sounds like you have a good routine down already, but that with the combination of congestion and teething, it has been a long few days! I'm sure once she starts to feel better it will pass, and your routine will be back to normal. I know a lot of the ladies on here who do CIO have also been posting about hard times, because their kids are sick and teething as well!

Re: CIO - never again!
I can't do CIO when she is teething it doesn't work for us plus IMO when they are unconfortable or in pain it's my job to comfort her. But at times when I know she's ok it works within minutes (I guess that how I know she's ok)

Re: CIO - never again!
if DD is teething or uncomfortable, i do not CIO. Also, for my DD, if i was in the room while she cried, it was over. I had to be out of the room and out of sight for it to work. I'm sorry your LO had to go through that. We have had bouts of that too, where DD was heaving, but i found those to be very rare, and they happened especially during times when she needed me, like teething. I agree rocking is really tough especially when it takes so long....I would try CIO again when shes feeling better.

Re: CIO - never again!
We can't let DS CIO either, he gets so upset he practically gets sick. What we do is when he gets back up after we rocked him to sleep we just keep laying him back down in his crib patting him a little and sneak out of the room. Sometimes we have to do it a few times for it to work, when he's teething or sick its very difficult though the only thing he wants is to be held. A lot of times we will have rough nights with him up until his tooth finally cuts through.
