Anti anxiety meds

Does anyone have experience with anti anxiety meds. Which have less side effects? Which have worked well?

Thanks

Re: Anti anxiety meds

It totally depends on you and your body. I've been on two in my lifetime-Zoloft and Cymbalta. Zoloft worked but I gained a LOT of weight on it. Cymbalta was okay but the withdrawal symptoms coming off of it were HORRIBLE. It took a good 2-3 weeks for me to finally feel like myself. I would talk to your doctor.

Re: Anti anxiety meds

I was on Wellbutrin for a few years. It did wonders for me. I came off of it b/c I am going to try and get pregnant. Everyone is different but for me it just help the anxiety ebb off so I could correctly look at a situation and handle things in my life.

Re: Anti anxiety meds

Unfortunately it is trial and error. What may work for one doesnt work for another. And what may not have any side effects for one person may have side effects for another.

It is frustrating Chat Icon

Re: Anti anxiety meds

I'm on my second month of prozac now for anxiety and depression. It's helped a lot. The only side effects are I have less of an appetite and my tolerance for alcohol is lower.

I hope you find something that works for you soonChat Icon

Re: Anti anxiety meds

Prozac is great for me. It really levels me out and I have no side effects. When I have anxiety attacks or feel one coming on, I take Xanax.

One of the reasons my dr. thought that prozac was good for me was because my mother had very positive effects on it. If a blood relative had a positive experience with a drug, you may be likely to have that same experience.

Re: Anti anxiety meds

My doctor has me on Xanax twice a day, regardless of where my anxiety is. I tried Celexa, but had a horrific experience, which is why he kept me on the Xanax. It seems to work for me, though like the PPs have said, it really depends on the person.

I'd be interested to know what - other than medication - has worked for you ladies in the past re: anxiety. I hate having to take something everyday for my anxiety. Plus, if we want to TTC soon, I think I have to go off the Xanax, right? TIA!

Re: Anti anxiety meds

I was on Zoloft and then was switched to Cymbalta. They had to keep raising the dosage on Zoloft for me and then I was starting to have side effects so I switched to Cymbalta. It worked well for about 3 months and NOW I'm having some funky side effects that I'm worried about. I have an appointment next week to talk to the doctor - I'll probably end up switching to something else.

Thanks ladies. I am starting off on Wellbutrin but I thought that was more for depression and I have more anxiety than depression. We'll see. Chat Icon

Re: Anti anxiety meds

I was on lexapro for a few years and it was fantastic. I had hardly any side effects at all. My mom and my cousin both had similar experiences to me.

Re: Anti anxiety meds

Am currently on Lexapro, at first I had some side effects, such as dry mouth, loss of appetite, jaw clenching, night sweats. It lasted a few weeks. It helped me a lot. Now I also take Xanax once a day to help my anxiety.
