Help, have an opportunity, but it would mean moving again. WWYD??
We lived in our first house in West Islip, since 2 months before DD was born. We moved last year, at the end of kindergarten when she was almost 6.
She adjusted well and made friends easily. I however, have had a very hard time feeling comfortable in the new area.
But anywho, when we moved, we told her she could still see her old friends, which she does, and most importantly this would be our first and last move and that she would graduate High School here.
My father just retired and my Mom is not far behind. They have expressed an interest in Moving out west, by my older brother and his family. So DH and I discussed it, and while we weren't thinking of moving, he loves it there. Then he went on his company website, and they have his exact position here in NY, open in Denver. Fate?? maybe
We could get an amazing house for half the price of what we have now, the taxes are also crazy low. They range from about $1500-$3000 A YEAR!!!!!
The area we would move to has great schools. You can choose any school you want to send your child to in the district, a charter school, a magnet school and you have the option of traditional or year round .
Each area of the development has it's own rec center. They have indoor and outdoor pools-even an indoor spray park and lazy river. It has a gym, all classes, all sports, dance, karate, cheer, gymnastics, ice skating, roller skating, rock climbing, horse back riding, ton of classes for the kids, pre-school and camp for school kids when school is closed.
They also have 350 days of sun a year, which really appeals to me.
So, with that being said, would you stay in NY, because another move may not be good for DD, or would you go?

Re: Help, have an opportunity, but it would mean moving again. WWYD??
I would too.
Cons:
DD would have another adjustment- but she WILL adjust and be okay.
Pros: You would be close to ALL of your family Higher quality of life- both convenience and financially.
The pros listed are also pros for DD- they will increase her quality of life and overall outweigh the negative to her. Also, the pros would be for your whole family.

My dd also has a REALLY hard time with change and we would go. Your family will be around to help her get used to the new area and it sounds like there are so many things for her to get involved in to meet new friends.
If we did decide to go I would contact the school district ahead of time for recommendations for local therapists so that I could get her set up with that quickly to help with the transition.
Good luck with your decision!

I wouldn't even look back!
But I'm also one that left LI after college, so I understand the many pros to moving.
For most, the only thing holding them back in a situation like this is family, but that is not the case. For you, it would keep you all closer!
I say do it!

Totally and completely agree. I am jealous! Best of luck - but this seems like a great opportunity for you all!

If my whole family was going...I would totally go! The only reason I stay in this area is because of my family. If they all picked up and moved somewhere, I would definitely go with them.

As much as your daughter might suffer/be sad initially from being away from her friends, the fact is that she is still young and can make new friends. There are no guarntees that the friends she has now will be the friends she'll have for her entire lifetime. Nope, not a good enough argument for me to stay when the entire family's quality of life could be much better elsewhere. There sounds like there's more opportunity and potential where you are looking for her to advance in all areas. Think of the financial impact of the move that will improve funding for college, vacations, etc.
I'd be packing like yesterday!

I'd move in a heartbeat but I would also need a little more info in Denver. I have a cousin who lives there so I'd need to really research it.

Re: Help, have an opportunity, but it would mean moving again. WWYD??
I would go if the opportunity was there and my whole family would be there too. No question.
I moved from LI to CA when I was starting 6th grade. I moved from CA to NJ when I was starting 9th grade.
I can honestly say from experience that the younger you are the easier it is to move. The move to CA was a piece of cake. Having to move and start high school was torture.
During those moves my brother was starting 2nd grade and 5th grade. He had no problems at all either.
Your DD shouldn't have any trouble adjusting.

If the only thing holding you back is your DD adjusting, I would not second guess it. I guarantee you that your DD would adjust just fine. She is small IIRC, in 1st grade like my DD. I would personally give anything to be able to move elsewhere but my DH is a city employee so we are married to NY until he retires.
