metformin question
Any side effects besides stomach issues? If you take 1500 mg do you take it twice a day or once? Do you always take it with meals? Any other advice as to prevent side effects? Tia

Re: metformin question
i take it once a day at night. before getting preg i had no side effects other than decreased cravings and more "Regular" bowel movements. both of these and positive side effects IMO.

Re: metformin question
I take 1500mg after dinner. I don't have any side effects but I always take it with food. If I didn't, I'm not sure how I would be.

Re: metformin question
I take 500mg with breakfast and 500 mg with dinner. It definitely sends me to the bathroom if I have a high carb meal.

Does it cause weight loss? ::hoping::
it didnt for me, but im not insulin resistant, just PCO. i mean it was easier for me to diet on it, since my only side effects were less cravings and consistent bowel movements , but i def didnt just suddenly lose weight from it. i am average weight to begin with though.

It helped with weight loss for me. I lost 35 lbs in 3 months on weight watchers and metformin. Before that, I was on weight watchers but not losing much.

Re: metformin question
i'll be honest....my first 3 weeks or so on metformin were horrible. i was not just having more bowel movements, but they were awful. i had to run out of meetings at work and often thought i'd have an accident thank GOD i never did!
that said....my RE told me to stick with it and give it some time. i've been on it now for about 7 weeks and i have absolutely no symptoms anymore.
i am seriously overweight and insulin resistant so i'm trying to lose weight too. i've lost about 14 pounds since the beginning of the year but i'm not sure if it's attributed to the metformin or just from eating better.
ETA: i take 1500mg....750mg with bfast and 750mg with dinner

Re: metformin question
I take 500mg with breakfast, 500mg with lunch and 500 mg with dinner. I lost a significant amount of weight on it, over 100 pounds, but it was a combination of Met, exercise and diet. The met was the jump stat I needed to make lifestyle changes, but it didn't make me lose weight per se. I would get nauseous on the medicine and STILL overeat, which to me proved that I had some big food issues! As far as things to do to avoid side effects, DON'T MISS SEVERAL DOSES. Each time I go a couple of days without it, it's just like starting all over.
Gina, I get tired on it sometimes too, but not like a sleepy tired, more like a lazy tired. One of the side effects can be "lethargy" so I'm going to blame my laziness on that!
