Worst Mommy Ever...
I don't post much, but I could really use some advice.
I am a FT working mom. DS is 13 months and home with a nanny. 3 weeks ago, we fired the nanny that has been with him since he was 3 months old after she stole from us. DH and I took equal time off work to stay home with him until we found a new, amazing nanny. She has been with our family for 2 weeks and and is doing great with DS. However, DS, who was historically this happy, good-natured boy, is now moody and clingy... and all he wants is DH!! It makes me so upset I had such a difficult delivery and dealing with permanent back issues as a result, I wake up extra early and rush home after working so hard to spend time with him before and after work, and then to hold him and have him cry for DH - it crushes me! I get so upset that I just give him to DH and walk away. DH keeps telling me to just deal with it, but the rejection feels so awful. I am sure it is just a phase and probably resulting from him missing his first nanny, but how do I stop it from hurting so bad??
Sorry so long - thanks for listening!

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
Next month he'll probably only want you. I know it hurts but it's not personal at ALL.

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
I'm sorry. As the other posters said.. it's a phase. Mason does this too. Sometimes he just wants me and sometimes DH. Sometimes he doesn't want either one of us. Don't take it personal. He loves you and it's nice he has a special bond with daddy as well. Next he'll be all over you and cry with daddy.

a total phase. DS was in this phase for weeks. I am happy to say he wants only mommy now.

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
I agree with everyone else that it's just a phase. Transitions at this age are usually about 1-2 weeks. So give it some time...
Also there are many back & forths between preferring parents. Trust me your rock star status will come & DH will wonder what happened to his.
Hang in there

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
I know it sucks right now but like the OP said it is totally a phase and he will be all about mommy soon.
Sorry about the whole nanny situation. That really stinks.

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
Daddy is Joey's favorite right now. I hate it too, I can't lie. . .it crushes me. BUT then there are days like this morning where he was my shadow and at my leg all morning & I couldn't move unless I was holding him . .."Ma, Ma, Ma hey Ma,Ma"
It's hard to not get "mad" & I will say DH is really good about it. He makes sure to tell DS. . "Give Mommy a kiss, you made her sad" "Mommy loves you just as much too." "Mommy is funny, look at what she is doing" etc . . .so tell DH to make sure he engages you too. Mommies tend to be the bad guys all the time. In my house, I know Daddy is WAY more fun and rough houses where I'm to paranoid of hurting him

Re: Worst Mommy Ever...
I know exactly what this feels like and it is AWFUL.
There are many nights that I have rushed through Penn, stood on the train waiting to see my son only to have him cry when I pick him up and hold his arms out to DH.
I too, have left the room, sat down and cried. You did nothing wrong, it is how children behave. Do not beat yourself up about this.
I will say in the last two months (DS is 23 months now) the tides have turned in our house a lot. Mommy is making a comeback
Kids change all the time. DH turned to me last weekend and said, "I really feel like I've been demoted"
You will be the favorite soon enough, I promise!
