rice cereal for reflux
what is the best bottle/nipple to use for adding rice cereal for reflux? I currently use BornFree bottles with a level 2 nipple (DD is 3 months). I use 1 tsp of rice cereal with 5 ounces of formula, but the nipple keeps getting clogged. DD is almost ready to take a little over 5 ounces so I need to buy bigger bottles...before I buy bigger BornFree bottles and open the nipple with a needle to allow the formula to pass easier, is there another bottle or nipple that you use that works better (where you don't need to open the nipple)?? A y-cut would be way too fast I think. What about Dr. Browns? Are their level 2 nipples maybe a little larger or better for rice cereal?? Is 1 tsp for 5 ounces too much?? I believe it's what my dr. said.
Thank you!

Re: rice cereal for reflux
I used Dr Browns with the level 2 nipple when my DD had cereal in her bottles. The level 1 nipples were just not working, so we moved to level 2 and that seemed to do the trick. HTH

I used the y cut Dr. Brown's, but the rice cereal really constipated DS, so we switched I think to oatmeal.

I use Tommee Tippee bottles with variable flow nipples and never had a problem with them

Re: rice cereal for reflux
I used the born free bottles with oatmeal and used the "Y" nipple. My kids had severe reflux and I did 1tsp of oatmeal per oz of formula.

Re: rice cereal for reflux
We did playtex drop-ins with y-cut/variable flow nipples. 1 tsp of rice cereal per oz of pumped BM. It worked like a charm for both kids, but it did take them a few days to figure out how to drink out of a y-cut nipple when they were used to the slow flow before that.

Re: rice cereal for reflux
I used/use Dr. Browns. We had to put oatmeal in the bottle for DS. I used the level 3 nipples. They seemed to be the only ones that worked. I didn't have to make the hole any bigger. We used a tbsp per ounce of formula for him. It was pretty thick. I found that the Y cut were just too big and he would choke. Hope this helps!
