Job hunting vent

I sent my CV directly to the hiring manager for a position back in April. He immediately responded that they had filled the position already but he would keep my resume on file.

Fast forward to April 21st when I get an email saying the person they hired backed out and asking if I was available for a phone interview. Have the phone interview that Friday and am asked when I can come in for on-site interview. They were eager to do it soon, as they had planned on someone filling the position already.

Between then and this week I have been going back and fourth trying to schedule an interview. I have made myself available any time they asked and then they'd cancel, saying they couldn't get everyones schedules coordinated (I would be interviewing with several people).

Last time I heard anything was last tuesday; they thanked me for being patient and said they were still trying to schedule.

After not hearing anything for a week (although the contact said he wouldn't be in the office this week) I emailed on Wednesday morning.I hear back and he says the position is not longer available.

To say I am is putting it mildly. I understand they found someone else, but how about letting me know. I am 100% certain that had I not sent an email I would have never heard anything back. Because they kept trying to schedule the interview last minute I spent all last week working on a presentation (which was required for the interview). A simple "we're working with another candidate" a week ago would have been fine. Instead they string me along acting like it is a scheduling issue.
Sorry just need to vent...

Ugh! That stinks!

I get that the current job market is what it is and there's a ton of applications coming in, but the way most hiring managers are treating serious applicants is super unfair.

There's so much info on etiquette for job hunters, it would be nice if even a little bit was reciprocated by the people doing the hiring.

Ugh, I'd be pi$$ed. I'd also probably consider myself lucky after I got over my initial anger because a company that treats potential employees like this, is probably not somewhere you would really want to work for.

That blows!! so sorry you went through that..sounds like that 'person" who backed out changed their mind.. who knows..

If it was meant to be then it wld have worked out, it still sucks to get your hopes up and your trying. I too am looking for a job and its hard, some folks are trying to scam ppl too.. its horrible.
