Godparent Question

The twins will have separate godparents. K's godmother asked if she could buy her diamond earings. I'd like the girls to get fair gifts.

So, how do I handle J's godmother? Do I ask her to buy the same earings? Or do I ask K's godmother to buy the same gift for each girl and ask J's to do the same? Meaning if K's wanted to get diamond earings - get them for both and J's wanted to get ID bracelet, get for both?

TIA!

Re: Godparent Question

i think it depends on the relationship you have with them......or more like the type of person they are. Will the other godmother get offended if you ask her to buy the earrings? Could she already have a special gift idea in her mind?

I would mention that K's godmother asked to buy her diamond earrings and see where the conversation goes.

Also, if i was the godmother in that situation i would not get offended by it at all, but thats me and I know some people in my family would get offended, if that makes sense.

Re: Godparent Question

Do the Godmother's know one another?

If so, I would mention K's G.M. that you would like the girls to get matching or equal gifts and see if she would mind coordinating it w/J's G.M.

If they don't, I would be honest w/ K's G.M., since she is the one who asked, and I would ask her if she would mind calling J's G.M. introducing herself and suggest they pick matching gifts.

I personally wouldnt mind if you called me to tell me what the other G.M. is getting for your daughter but I can see where that might not be received well by some.

Re: Godparent Question

I had my brother and SIL as Godparents for all 3 so maybe I am not the right person to be answering but.... here is how I feel on the situation.....

I treat my girls as individuals and I feel if one has something the other doesnt need to have the same thing...ex.. Gioavanna got her ears peirced and Sophia didnt... I want them to be differnt and even thought they look totally opposite I dont feel they need the same things.... I would mention to both Godparents what the other is buying and leave it at that...I would not get upset if one girl got earrings and the other a bracelet...but thats just me.....

Sorry I dont think I helped out much....LOL

Re: Godparent Question

Well since I have b/g twins its a little different, but I know what you mean about wanting them to get equal gifts. I've decided to just let everyone buy them what they want, and if I feel like one twin got "less" I would just buy for the other twin.

my DH's partner was the one who actually thought of it. he said there would always be competition bc one set would always give more than the other. good luck to you hon!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Godparent Question

i think if both of your DCs godmothers are friendly with each other, you can ask them to coordinate their gifts so that they willl get your girls similar things.

before i was even PG my sister had said she wanted to be the godmother of my next. when we found out it was twins we had my sister and her DH be the godparents for both bc i knew that my sister would always be around (we see each other at least 1x week) and i felt bad if one twin had a godmother who was more involved than the other. i also knew that my sister would always buy them great gifts and i couldnt expect someone else to try and match them. but i know that its a different situation since the godmother was my sister and not just a friend.
