As for general layoffs, we haven't heard anything yet. But my principal did say since we have 6 retirements this year, she needs to hire one extra person. So I guess she is not replacing all that leave. Our class register is also going up a lot in each class.

Yet they're still hiring new people! My friend's DH has an interview with a program similar to the Fellows. What the heck??

I have also been looking at want ads on Craiglist (research for when I get canned for low test scores   ) and they are also planning a new type of fellowship where you work as a "resident" under a teacher before being fully certified. They still draw a salary while a resident.

They're paying the "residents" a TA salary instead of a full teacher.
