How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

Just wondering how any of you knew it was the right time to start TTC. DH and I have been married for almost 2 years. Some days I feel like we should be starting and other days I feel like I'm not ready. A lot of people tell me that you're never ready until baby arrives but that scares me to death! Any feedback would be greatChat Icon

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

A main factor for me is my age. I just turned 37, so it's like- it's now or never.
I'll be 100% honest and say that even though we are trying, I still have days that I question if it is the right thing to do. I think that's normal- or at least I hope it is

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

Honestly we just felt ready. We kept gravitating towards babies and talking about our future children became a daily topic.
We've only been married for 2 months but we've been together for 10 years. Our initial plan was to wait at least 1 year to start trying but after the wedding we were just so overwhelmed with our love for eachother (I know- sounds silly!) and decided why are we waiting?? The only answer we could come up with was having more money in our savings account, which will always be an issue if you ask me! We already own a 2BR co-op and from day 1 imagined our little one's nursery.
Chat Icon So this was our 1st month TTC and we had a blast!

Of course it's scary but it's so exciting!! Good Luck!

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

Crashing..

You sound like me. If you aren't the kind that will say "I"m 100% ready to do this" and be gun-ho...don't feel bad. There was never a point that I was like that and the closest I could do was say to DH "Okay fine, we won't use any birth control from now on.." because the idea of doing all the TTC stuff of tracking my cycles and what not, would be too much for me. I practically forgot that we weren't using birth control ,as around 8 mos passed, and I became pregnant.

I never felt ready and it did scare the crap out of me....but my DD is here and the most amazing gift I could ever have asked for in life. She's 3 wks old and I'm STILL not ready. Chat Icon but it doesn't matter because she's HERE and we just love her.

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

We've been married almost 5 years. Whenever people asked me when we were having chidlren, Id always say "when the desire overcomes the fear". To this day it's the best way to describe it. I've always wanted children but was so afraid of it. Now Im still scared but my desire to be a mom outweighs any fear I have. I dont know if it ever goes away.

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

DH and I. Knew before we got married that we both wanted children, however, we agreed when we got married that we would wait until we are 30. We were 26 when we got married. A for the first two years of marriage I went back and forth between wanting kids and not wanting them. After two years, I started to get the "itch", meaning I started thinking about it more often, and then one day it just hit me hard that I REALLY wanted a baby and would do anything to have one. I knew and was prepared to give up the lifestyle that we have to give 100% to our children. So now we are here!

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

DH & I are also trying to determine the right time to start TTC.

I told him i don't want to do actual trying; charting; temping etc. We decided that next year; I'd just stop taking my pill and let things happen. If see after 8-12 months that we're still not pregnant then we'll start the official steps of charting and OPK.

The main reason we're waiting is that we've only been married 1 1/2 months so far! Although we were together 7 years before that including living together in our home we bought 3 years ago. I really want us to have our first couple of months married just enjoy ourselves; going out for dinner/drinks like we always do.

1-we both know we want kids and it was a matter of time until it happens!
2 - we both have steady jobs
3 - we have already have the house so we are not still focusing on saving for that.
4 - Are already 31 and 32 and don't want to wait much longer
5 - when we got married we decided we wanted to have 1 year without saving for a house, a wedding, feeling stressed about "big" changes and expenses and really enjoy ourselves, go on vacation, go to lots of concerts and not hold back. We never wanted to say that we didn't get to do _____ , so we did everything! I didn't want to be pregnant doing that stuff cause we wanted it to just be "us" time and wanted to drink and eat and make sure we were restricted by anything (including morning sickness or any prego complication).
6 - makes it easier when all your friends already have 1 or 2... they don't hang out as much now anyway!

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

We had a "year of fun" like a previous poster. Now we are looking at things in stages. I wanted to be off the pill for a few months before even thinking of trying - was on seasonale so my cycle was weird. It wasn't uncomfortable going off the pill because the actual baby making was a few months off. We had a big vacation and by the time we got back we were both just ready. It helped me to have that 'baby step' of going off the pill 6 months ago. We just started TTC this month.

Good luck.

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

There were a few things.

One thing we decided when we got marrie dwas we would NOT have a child in the first year, even though I was 39 when we got married.

We thought it would selfish to our marraige to get PG right away, or even on out honeymoon. We wanted to make sure we had a year to do things as a married couple, go out with friends on a moment notice, run out of the house, go to a movie...basically just be able to build our married life together.

About 2 months before our anniversary we re-visited and I stopped taking BCP.

We knew we wre ready. Financially stable, in a loving supportive relationship, AND I was pushing 40.

But, for US, having a baby the moment we got married just seemed really dumb. (with no opinion on others who do!) we knew that after we got to be a married couple for a time we would start.

I DON'T know. lol. But here we are, and we're both really excited!

Don't get frustrated if you never have that "aha" moment. Everyone's different. If you asked me or DH 3 years ago, we would have said we weren't sure we EVER wanted kids. People change sometimes.

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

We always knew we wanted children. Initially, we said we'll wait 2 years, and then it became 3.. did some travelling and figured we ain't getting any younger. And I always wanted my first before I hit 30.. I know.. its just a number, but that number was in the back of my head.. and it was slowly creeping up. So we said, ok we'll start trying and see what happens. First month we just winged it and when AF showed up, we figured next month we'll definetly follow "protocol" Chat Icon

Re: How did you know you were "ready" to start TTC?

Dh and I always wanted to start a family of our own. For me what did was my age. I'll be 34 at the end of the month and I keep thinking to myself " Wow I should have 3 by now." But sometimes things don't always happen the way you intend them to. Having a baby is something I want more than anything in this world..but in the same sense it scares the hell out of me. One thing I do know is that I am going to be a great Mommy! Something for one I can not wait to become!
