bottle feeding a breast feed child... need tips!!!
My DS is 3 months old and next week I go back to work full time. I have been exclusively nursing him because he refuses bottles. My poor mother will be watching him and whenever she trys to feed him with a bottle he screams as if someone is killing him. Any suggestions on types of bottles and nipples or how to introduce the bottle, There was about a month when he took a bottle everynight from me but for some reason he decided to completely resist it now. Not the right time to start to hate bottles when mommy has to go back to work, HELP!!!

We went through this with DD2. We had to go out and buy Soothie bottles like her binky, and DH or someone else had to feed her without me present. If I tried to give her a bottle, she fought. She did better when DH gave her a bottle and I wasn't present.

A friend suggested (and I used) Playtex Drop-in bottles with the natural latch nipple. You might need the medium flow nipple. It is a hassle to keep buying the inserts, but it was the only bottle that worked for DS. Good luck!

Re: bottle feeding a breast feed child... need tips!!!
We introduced the bottle to DD late as well (around 9 weeks). She still prefers to BF to the bottle (and she's almost a year old), but she did get the hang of it. We never give her a bottle where I BF her, and even when I nurse her at daycare at the end of the day before we commute home, I nurse in a different room where she never receives a bottle. IMO, it's all about association.
We use Tommee Tippee bottles. They are the only kind we have ever used.
You might also want to check the nipple size on your bottles. A 3 mo old is likely a pretty efficient nurser, so the bottles may not be fast enough and he could be getting frustrated b/c it's not as fast as he's used to.
Also, we have found that DD will only take a bottle if she's truly hungry. So, her teacher will wait a little while longer to feed her sometimes so DD is really ready to take the bottle. Not saying to starve him, but it's not necessarily going to be the 'every 2 hr' cycle he may be on while EBF.

Re: bottle feeding a breast feed child... need tips!!!
I had the same experience with DS when I went back to work. We never really got him on the bottle but occasionally he would take to it when I was at work. What I found worked for DH/my mom when I was at work was: the playtex drop-ins with the natural latch nipple (brown one) in the fast flow, the bottle had to be warmed up and so did the nipple so they ran the nipple under hot water to soften it. He also only took it in one place and had to be free of any distractions. It was a lot of trial and error for us to see what would work. Good luck. I know how frustrating this is!
